The 08+ ones are all Lite-Ons which are a PITA to flash.

made a win98 usb boot drive
used easy xbin to download dosflash16, ixtreme 1.6 & firmtool
plugged SATA to a mobo port
ran flashdump & it listed my SATA drives - read/stored the OEM firmware
ran firmtool too inject whatever doodads it injects from my bin into ixtreme 1.6
ran flashdump & it listed my SATA drives - erased the flash with doshflash
ran flashdump & it listed my SATA drives - wrote ixtreme to it
reboot to windows 7
done

you could do a benq in less than 120 seconds if you had too

I just got a new model with a lite-on a couple weeks ago, sucks but I had to order a connectivity kit to flash it. All drives before this I didn't need one.

Should be able to do that. It's actually my brothers, so I'll ask him.

I believe you have to have a spear to flash the MS28's unless you want to do some soldering. I have only flashed BenQ drives. There are freaking easy as hell. It seriously takes longer to take the case apart than that entire flashing process on those.

What's the benifits of flashing? My 360 is an og (first month they came out) still going strong. Can you still play games online?

Benefits would be able to adjust your disc read speed and also able to play backup games. Yes you can still go online. Mine has been flashed for about two years now going online all the time. I'm hesitant to switch to the new FW for wave 3 games as I have had such good luck with mine currently.

1.6 is fine.

The spear (which is just an add on, you still need a connectivity kit or a homemade serial adapter) is only used for the new Lite-On drives. If you can solder a couple small contacts together you don't need a spear. This is what I did.

There was a guy on another site that made a spear out of a pen, wire, a resistor out of a radio, and alligator clip or something.

All you need is a conductor with a certain resistance, make it out of a piece of wire and a resistor is the simplest setup

you only need a key grabber the first time you flash a lite-on.  i just had a kid in town flash my lite-on and he just emailed me all the key files for whenever the new firmware comes out.

check out xbox360iso.com  you have to sign up to view, but they have a TON of info there and links to download games too.  as long as you run your game through abgx360 to make sure they are stealthed right and don't play games before they come out in stores there is no worries about getting banned on live.

yeah I've done a few with lite-on drive.. it's a PITA and doesn't ever dump the key properly for me the first 10 tries and requires a ton of reboot/setup to get it right almost every time >:(

it's worth it though to not have a red ring pop up randomly (dead xbox)

PITA until you find out what works for your PC.  It's suggested to use the VIA chipset for a few of the drives, and using it resulted on me bricking a 360 when it grabbed a bad key.

VIA chipset works for me with one drive, the others I use the motherboard's Intel ICH10 chipset.

BCG is invite only, and bitgamer, but if you can get there they can't be beat.  Fuck waiting days for a torrent to download from a public tracker.

i didn't look online.. the day i flashed my drive i went to office max and paid $30 for 15.. then I considered $5 for priority shipping.. it was just an offer for those who don't have a fast connection  :P

Jorsher, you must've had an older connectivity kit I'm assuming? The new one (version 3) has a serial connection as well which is needed to flash the new lite-on drives. Can't use an older kit, and there's no way to flash these without some sort of kit or homemade adapter unlike all the earlier drives which needed nothing but a sata connection to your computer to flash.

Write up all depends on your model. Take it apart and post up your DVD drive model and we can go from there.

you can eject the tray and compare it with these to determine which drive you have
