Engine is a D16z6 with built head: bisi cam and gear, kms valvetrain
and bottom end: 75.5 vitaras, FJ rods
so the engine seems to be running pretty well, compression 170 +/- 5 turns over smoothly by hand. The head is a bit noisy (lifter) but i would think it would be a bit louder than stock but i donno never had a built one before. Cold start up autometer gauge shows above 75 and less than 100psi oil pressure which seems good (ported shimmed new pump). After the car warms up it idles alittle under 25psi, same as stock pump? Driving 1st and 2nd gear WOT pressure builds to 70ish psi 3rd seems to just climb a hair over 50psi which still seems like enough to crack VTEC but it is not activating and throwing a code 22 usually 3rd gear in vtec range sometimes 2nd gear, first seems to go through well. I started by pulling Vtec solenoid, screen is clean minus some flake and clicks when jumped to power, cant see plunger moving but dont know how far it should travel. Decided to pull pan and check pick up which looked reletively clean minus some flake which i cleaned out pretty well, still same problem? So now i am stuck between replacing vtec solenoid or replacing the head with a stocker and sending it back to the machine shop. Any insight on some other things to check first? i might try putting a stock oil pump back in as well.
Cliffs: Code 22 no vtec. checked pan and pickup, solenoid screen, not to clogged up. Oil pressure seems ok, level is good?
