Because the head problem still exists.

Kenny, quit fucking around with wanting to make a cross-brand jump at a financially fragile time in your life.  I wouldn't wish an Exploder on you, nor a Land Rover like Mister Pants just bought (and was warned about, just like he was warned about that 2.5RS he unloaded).  Get the fucking RT4WD wagon, or if you really have to mix it up get a Legacy wagon - while the older Loyale based stuff is reliable if you dump a quart of oil in it every 400 miles, I don't like cars designed to leak oil.  Everything else mentioned in this thread is shit, and comparatively has less than zero reliability.

No, the EA82's were dubbed "1.8 leakers" for a reason.  I'd take some early FWD or AWD naturally aspirated EJ22 legacy action over them anyday.

I don't disagree with you on a lot of things, and usually respect your decision, but I will totally disagree with you on this statement nor do I respect your thoughts.

The trooper is a fucking beast. You are the only one I have ever heard speak of a valve seal issue. I mentioned the tick, but its not a problem other than its annoying. Ive had my trooper for 8 years now, and still yet to see a reason to get rid of it. Oil every 400 miles? My trooper uses less oil than any Honda I have ever owned. The OP mentioned he wanted a SUV, and a real SUV. I would not relate a 4dr wagon a SUV. Honda produced the passport and "honda" also made the SLX which is dam near identical to the Trooper. Some argue that the sohc 3.2 is/was made by honda for isuzu.

Worried about cost? Like I mentioned, you can source troopers for the 2g range all day long. I'm paying the 2k range for my rover.

So from personal experience, id say your thoughts are totally worthless on this issue. Your entitled to your opinion though. You want a trailer :)

This.Troopers are good damn trucks for the money, and you'd be a fool to think otherwise. There's always some little issues with something, that's anything. My dad's had a 99' trooper for a few years. The starter died one day and we replaced it. Other than that, it has just run. It pulls a trailers or boat half the time.

Everyone I've talked to in the last five years that drives one loves it and talks about it like you do yours.  But I remember when the vehicles were newer, 10-13 years ago, and I had to yank a lot of heads.  Not a difficult job, but the taste of failure lingers and i couldn't bring myself to buy one.

Also, did you even read the thread I linked to concerning valve seats/heads cracking?  It's not a seal problem, it's cracking.

Honda produced the passport

Uh, no.  That's an Isuzu pile of failure.  The local dealer alternative, Honda/Acura Service Center informs Passport owners their vehicle is an Isuzu and to seek an Isuzu specialist - most of those need a fuel pump/sender combo which requires the ECU be recalibrated so the gauge reads right and they don't want to drop the tank or buy the tool.

So from personal experience, id say your thoughts are totally worthless on this issue. Your entitled to your opinion though. You want a trailer :)

Funny when my thoughts are backed up by a simple netsearch, whereas yours are entirely anecdotal or vast personal experience with one vehicle.

And, I don't want a trailer or any other such garbage.  I want a goddamn deal - on anything - that I can turn around and sell/trade to my financial gain.  You're the one that's trying to sell *me* the trailer.  After you being told three times that I'm not looking for closed/enclosed/size/amenities/etc but for a motherfucking steal I can profit off of you keep asking me what sort of trailer I'm looking for, and somehow think I in any way shape or form want a trailer for myself.

I guess on this subject we will agree to disagree. My 8 years of personal experience with the trooper outweigh one link on the internet about the things.

and you should have no problems making money on a trailer.

I made an offer of $1,600 on this:
http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/ctd/1348695790.html

It has 270k, so in my email to the dealer I detailed the number of things potentially wrong with it, or about to fail.  We'll see... it's $700 under the asking price.

I still have an open mind though, this one looks decent too (caution: ford)

besides the passenger valve cover leaking on the 4.0 V6 they are easy to maintain
the 4x4 drive motor on the transfer case like to stick/go out if it hasnt been used very much
but they are easy and cheap to replace
if the auto hubs on it are shot then your looking at some money to rebuild/replace
or you can do a manual lock out swap on them for about $200-250
ive had 3 and they have all been beasts  :noel:

All the decent 4 runners seem to be $3500+.  It seems all the 4 runners for $2k has something significantly wrong.

It took some time, but I talked the wife into the civic wagon rt4wd as the best financial decision.  Her only argument was that it's ugly.  I win  :P

There are 2 for sale in my area, one at the dealership and one owned by some kid who cut the springs because it "looks sick"... and also has a fucked up axle  :-\

It is in good condition, supposedly.  Still, $2,300 is over blue book for the mileage.  If they don't go for my offer, meh.  You guys would actually pay dealership prices?

That blows. Even if you can find one with some rust on the body, as long as they're structurally sound and run good they're a good buy.

I bought my winter beater 4runner for $1800. Body rusty as hell but it ran great. Never complained a bit.

They never responded to my email so I called the dealer.  I asked what's the best price they could offer me.  They said $2,300, but the boss was thinking about raising the price... lol, ok.   So I offered $1,800 + TTL (Pushing $2k total)... that's the most I'd pay for the wagon, but they declined.  I can wait longer than them, I have lots of time.

There are two public auctions this month I want to check out.  If you get there 3 hours early you can kick the tires and check them out before they're auctioned.  We'll see if there's anything worth looking at when they publish the inventory.

Either get a CR-V because everyone on here seems to suck fucking dicks to get there hands on a Honda. OR get a Jeep Cherokee up til about '98. Those 4.0's are strong and are hard to blow up. And if you do manage to, I'm sure you can pick up a motor for a few hundred.

CR-V for under $2k?  Yeah, good luck with that.  4.0 Jeeps are on my list of possible options.

I'm not opposed, I just don't know enough about the Rodeo/Passport to make a decision.  They are relatively cheap compared to other 4wd SUV's with the same age/mileage.  Obviously the price is a plus, but it makes me apprehensive that it'll take a shit quicker than the others.  I'll look into it though.

The douchbag dealer upped the price on that rt4wd wagon to $2700  ::)

SO, I looked at this one -
http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/cto/1342719534.html

Owned by a young kid, "needs a new axle" because the boot is ripped and won't hold grease, probably neglected over time and fucked it up.  Not sure how difficult it would be to find a replacement.  I doubt they use the same axles as the other wagons.

Thanks?  lol, I found out the kid is a good skier - http://www.thajarmin.com/view.php?id=1418196

KBB private party for "good" is $1,285... axle damage doesn't put this car as good, but I'm still willing to offer $1200.  These cars are pretty rare, I searched crazedlist (total CL search) and all the cars in ok shape were 2600+

Schucks reman'd axle: $60... should be easy.

Ive never had a bad axel on a civic/honda shake the car at any speed. But I have had a out of balance wheel make the car shake like crazy.

I know it's not an SUV, but have you guys ever heard of the Isuzu Impulse RS?  For some reason, this is the first I've ever heard of it.  It was GM so the body looks like a Geo Storm, but the RS is AWD, turbo, suspension by Lotus supposedly. AWD consists of Front/Rear viscous LSD's, helical center diff.

http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/cto/1374715550.html

I'm not really considering buying it, I'm just amazed I've never even heard of this thing.

If it's not shitcanned, I'd buy it.  The think is a tiny bit tight in the engine bay but nothing's buried so you can still work on it.  It sports GM connectors, but is wired like a Honda ie the engine harness plugs disconnect on the pass shock tower - very much intelligent design.   A clutch job, using hand tools and jackstands, takes about six to seven hours so it's really cake by AWD standards (save the old 80s Scoobies you yanked the engine to do a clutch in).

Those are nice cars, dude.
