They drain the oil, pop in a couple of quarts of liquid glass, then run them till they seize.

They have to destroy the motor.

Once that's done, the rest goes to the junkyard.

So much for the hippies complaining about living in excess and the polluting factories. Now they're destroying good shit, cheering people to buy something they don't need, milking the taxpayers, and calling it a success.

The Green Party actually is not in favor of this last time I checked.  This is government bullshit.  Nothing more or less.  Granted, if I had a beater that was worth $2k and I could get $4500 for it, I'd go for it.  But I also know that it is significantly better for the environment to keep an old car running than it is to produce a new car.

not that i agree with it, but the supposed point of this whole thingwas to get cars that got bad fuel economy off the road for good, and get people into new fuel efficient cars to lowe rthe need for foreign fuel, or so i hear. if the govt didnt have a stake in it (GM) i doubt it would have happened.

its all bullshit anwyays

Our government depends on GM and Ford taxes more than most things to fund their senseless acts.

This is more or less a bail out in a round about way supporting auto manufacturers here in the states, or at least that's what I thought it was.

So what's the rules of this policy? Can I go buy six shit bricks for $500 ech and go trade them in on a brand new car? If they would let you do that then I would be all over it.

Never mind, what a useless crock of shit.

Quote
The basics: One person, one credit. So pick your jalopy wisely. Also, since the trade-in car must be destroyed, “consumers purchasing or leasing a new vehicle under this program should not expect to receive the full trade-in value of their old vehicle when negotiating with a dealer.” More on the destruction later.

What old cars qualify? Anything up to 25 years old that is still driveable, has been insured for the last year, and gets 18 miles per gallon or less. By the way, that’s under the new EPA rules (which lowered estimated mileage)—so more cars will actually qualify.

What can you get? For a new passenger car, anything that gets 22 miles a gallon; for SUVs and light trucks, 18 miles a gallon. For heavy pickup trucks, 15 miles a gallon.

How much do you get? If you trade a car for a car, and the new vehicle gets between 4 and 9 miles a gallon better mileage, $3,500. If it gets 10 miles a gallon more than the junker, that goes up to $4,500.

If you trade a car for a light truck, things get a little less green. A modest 2 to 4 mile improvement in fuel economy nets $3,500; a 5 mile-per-gallon improvement means $4,500. And if you are just trading in large trucks, a single 1 mile-per-gallon improvement is worth $3,500, while a modest 2 mile-per-gallon boost gets you $4,500.

The Transportation Department was really worried about fraud—that dealers taking the old cars would put them back on the road, as the DOT says has happened in Germany’s cash-for-clunkers program. So they spent plenty of time testing ways to destroy engines.

For the record, the recommended action plan for dealers is to get a $7 bottle of sodium silicate, pour it in, and drive until the whole engine freezes.

Make no mistake, these cars dont go to a junkyard to get parted, they go directly to the crusher or chipper. I have seen so many good vehicles that could benefit the poor get fucked up.. and guess where this 3 billion dollars is coming from? Your paycheck and China.. Guess what MASS polluting country is laughing all the way to the fucking bank? China! Guess what country will buy out the U.S. if we dont quit over revving the money presses and giving money to big business assholes that chose to squander it or start Ponzi schemes? Fucking knock off artists.... So much of the shit that congress is trying to pass in a blitzkrieg at night will fucking break the back and spirit of a once great country.

either way they have a bunch of white trash, nig nogs, or beaners trading in the car they don't have a payment on, to buy something that they can't afford to pay for with government handouts, so now the auto industry will go heels up in a few years, just like the real estate did.  in all seriousness, you will be paying for this.
