Computree/360 wizards
« on: August 08, 2009, 08:47:58 PM »

Ok so I just stream movies from the PC to the 360 to watch on TV. Well my primary drive is only 40Gb which I use just for the the system files/OS.

For some reason it won't stream the movies from my secondary hard drive where all my downloads are. I have already loaded them in the media player library and they play fine there. If I move them to the primary drive and and to the library it works fine. For some reason it just won't stream the damn thing as long as they are on the secondary drive. Any ideas?

What program are you using to stream them? I use Tversity and it allows me to select target drives and folders. Works flawlessly between my comp hard drive and 2 externals, aside from my computer being 5 years old and slow as piss.

I figured it out after messing with it forever. For some reason media player 12 gets corrupted easy from what I read. I couldn't find a legit download so I found a way you had to delete a bunch of the media player system files and then it would reinstall them on start up which then allowed me to update the library.

Sounds like you should use something else.

Windows Media player 12 is sweet...when it works right.

I have trouble with it not fully closing out occasionally, and when I try to open another file it gives me an error about a server.  So I have to manually close it in task manager and start over...

Libraries have some issues streaming, but I'm hoping it's one of the 20,000 bugs they fixed for the completed Win7.  Will be installing OEM soon...

tversity can suck it.

connect it via media center
stream it with WMP

most 1080p blue-ray disks are h264 @ 2500mbits, 5.1 channel audio. grab a good CPU and staxrip. convert the bitch to an mkv file h264 @ 9000mbits for the video. 2 channel ACC audio. boom transparent 1080p videos over your network. the samsung's softare can take it over their joke streaming software too.
Ive done the last 2 batman movies, the longest day, patton, ironman, dog day, all the indiana jones movies, fuckload more. most come out right around a gb.

You won't get transparency with 1gb 1080p file, 100% guaranteed, but I'm sure it'll be good enough for 99% of people...  A *near* transparent bluray conversion will run you around 8-12GB, depending on how much film grain is in the movie.  Digitally recorded movies compress much much better than grainy movies.

*bluray *discs are usually around 25,000mbps which I think is what you meant.

megui + x264 is superior.

Staxrip is for n00bs that have little knowledge of the inner-workings of the format and can't do anything more complicated than point-click (aka Apple users).  Great if you don't know/care about quality or can't figure out how to use MeGUI and take advantage of the options it offers (which seems to be your case)

MeGUI is a fully featured front-end for x264.exe (which is frequently updated and has repeatedly won competitions for the best quality/compression) that keeps all the included software builds up-to-date and gives you all the options you need for a quality re-encode.

I have 8 x 3.6ghz cores doing my work and am satisfied, thanks.  You're a dick-sucker no matter what you do :P

If I'm an dick-sucking encoder, lets encode the same movie, you can use your staxrip and I'll use my MeGUI.  We can compare results.

I have some bluray ISOs and m2ts streams hosted on a 100/100mbps server if you would like to grab one with the quickness.

both my roommate and half the people in our apartment let me run x264farm over our network. in return i leave my media drives shared so they can stream anything i have.

last movie i did in 1080p (Patton blue-ray) the average fps for both passes of a 2 pass encode was > 150fps.

1x Q9500
1x Q6600
2x phenom 9650s
1x athlon x2 4800= (OCed 3.12ghz)
1x celeron 550
2x celeron 440
1x mobile athlon 2500+ (2.6ghz)
2x P3s @ 933

its like your boyfriend said. you can take that expencive dildo and push his button as many times as you like; he still ont cum any faster. ya fucking freaksack

Nobody likes you, sir failure :)

x264farm omg you mean I don't know what it is and it's not for distributed encoding across machines?

Shitty collection of computers by the way, poor people apartment?

I can do a shitty two pass at that speed too with shitty settings :D

Your computer knowledgeabilities pwn me!

I only have a technical position with the gov't, partial computer engineering degree, multiple certifications, programming skillz, and throwing together a RAID6 16 x 1.5TB 4U rackmount fileserver for streaming my metric shitton of HD content...and you like to talk e-shit on a forum.

Congrats ;)

If only he was joking...

Furthermore, Toysinme you are still a jackass for believing a 1GB 1080p movie is going to be transparent to the original 15-30GB file.

That is all.

ugh earth to the stupid fuck.
if you had a sever board with dual i7 965 extremes (8 cores), you wouldn't AVERAGE > 100fps on a 2 pass encode unless it as 720p or LESS. god damned idiot...

and any front end is as good as another. they're all nothing more than note takers for avisynth, x264, and whatever audio encoding program you've got running. you prove you're more god damned ignorant every time you reply to anything i post.

having the cock in your ear doesn't give you more brain cells you faggot.

ditto on Patton being fucking-A.

and blue-ray movies are encoded in bullshit low quality h264 & VC-1 profiles that rely on rand bandwidth to produce their stunning images.

you quit being a fucking newb and go work on your avisynth & x264 scripts & use some fucking high end options and yes, a 9m will be transparent.

I watch shitty grainy AVI's because 99% of movies aren't worth the bandwidth for HD
