I know I'm in the minority, but I have no problem with 20 somethings collecting unemployement.  It's fair to assume sometime in their mid to late 20's they are going to find some slut and knock her up.  As a result, they will get married and basically from 27 to 75 they will be forced to work some job they probably won't like very much because their responsibilities.  So fuck it, you are a worthless fuck a few years in your 20s as you figure shit out and the government pays for it.  Big deal.  They'll get their money back over the next 50 years of you working.

Everyone I know that collected unemployement in their 20s ended up smoking, drinking, or frivolously spending the money away very quickly.  Then after it was all said and done, they went and found a job and became a slave to it afterward.  Most people are going to work regularly for the rest of their lives.  Collecting unemployement at 20 isn't the life shattering event you all make it out to be.

I think unemployment has its ups and downs, but its a good way of taking a break while you look for related work in your field of training (for those who have envested 5+years for ex.). 

I have never had to use it but it is nice to know its there for that unexpected time i might.

I think that's an old way of thinking.  With the way things are now, you work until you die.  The ability to retire and enjoy is becoming a less feasible idea daily.  Social security won't exist and even now its barely enough to live on.  There is no more working towards retirement.  So fuck it, take some time now when you have the ability to live.  It's not really on the government's buck because you figure over the next 50 years you are going to dump 10x what you actually took out.  They are loaning you $10k and you are going to pay it of 10x over 50 years.  Who is getting the raw end of the stick?

I'm not suggesting sitting and doing nothing.  I'm suggesting taking some time and making yourself happy for a year because god knows once you get the girl knocked up and have a family you're life will suck.  Look at Colton's vacation thread for proof.

I was kicked out of my home when i was 17. Worked for 2 years right after I got out of high school, got laid off. I was making 7-8 dollars an hour and if it wasnt unemployment would of been homeless. Oh I also drove a car that was paid for,lived in the ghetto and lived off basically the cheapest food I could find. I did though go to the track and build shit with the local nigs giving me props when i was changing clutches in the rain in a a praking lot.


The little money I had left by the time I found a job went to school and starting a business that has grown each year.


I also ended up with a degree,skills and the only person from my crew of people I grew up with not to become a felon. So Sir yes if it wasnt for that 5 months of income I promise you I would of never been able to do anything I have. I have used the bare bones of life to get through everything so maybe middle class white kids who live at home get to blow that money but I sure as hell didnt.

my last job ended on last weekend. I started a new unrelated job this tuesday taking less than half the pay I made there because thats what was available.
