I guess I like my china SMD/hot air rework station.
« on: August 18, 2009, 11:12:53 PM »

http://store.sra-solder.com/product.php/6267/0

I've been beating on this thing for a month now, it's pretty solid.  The scuttlebutt on electro-tech-online.com is that these are the same unit as the Hakko, made by the same factory only the factory is selling them out the backdoor for a quarter what Hakko charges.  That's the only reason I bothered with a china unit, so far so good.

I originally purchased this to pop free the SMD injector drivers on AEM EMS, it also makes installing the SMD 74HC373's on JDM square ECUs very easy.

My next purchase (from SRA, the Aoyue importer for North America) will be a desoldering station.  I also want a *real* oscilloscope, it's a damn shame those aren't made in china.

i have been needing to pick up a desoldering gun.  A real one.  Thats been the only thing keeping me from doing ecu's.  I hate the tedious process of it.  Vacuum pump makes life a lot easier.

I saw an article where this dude used a small processor fan rhmt style. Thought it looked pretty sweet.

I don't know man... I prefer copper braid to vacuum pumps any day.

That, sir, is a D student opinion.

Surface mount components.  I can remove and reattach them in seconds, no difficulty and no bullshit.

Boo to you I was the best solderererer in my analog class.  That was the only physics class I actually enjoyed (besides thermo).

Do it a couple times a week for a decade.  You'll be able to do it via a couple different methods, and you'll not particularly care what a kid who's had a class was able to do after four months.  Sorry to be a cocksucker about it, but that's the difference between our perspectives.

I figured it was something like that, but I suspended disbeleif for 24 hours.  You don't pile a bunch of shit on a quality oscilloscope to te point you can't see it, you have old used up crap.

SRA is an american company.  I've not called them to talk to them, so they might be FOB as hell, but they are legit.

BTW, the entire users manual is in perfect, professional english.  You can't find that with some brand name televisions.

I'm ASSuming that the "smoke absorber" function could be hijacked to support that.  The problem is there's no external connection to turn it on and off.

It's all a modular construction line of soldering gear... Betcha it's the same exact pump motor in everything.  My Aoyue 968's pump sounds just like Dave B's Xytronics desoldering station's pump, which is also a Hakko clone.

No, I'll buy a desoldering unit.  I've had enough of jury-rigged gear, it breaks and takes half the day to fix.  Costs more time/money than buying serviceable gear in the first place.

They have an all-in-one hot air rework, soldering, and desoldering station if you want to go that route.
