not if there is notes in the case file about what happened. as dumb as cops are, they can do a few things right. also, if you're feeling sketchy about a vin at all, you can call your local police services and have them run the vin for you and tell you if it's stolen or not. in seattle and greater king county, the # is 206.296.3311.
