Ring size question
« on: March 06, 2009, 07:07:36 PM »

When buying new forged pistons, the rings should be the same size right?

My friend ordered some pistons from Race Engineering, or at least "designed" by them, but made by Wiseco. Well, the sale ad said they came with rings, but after he paid for them Race Eng emailed him saying they didn't come with rings, so he bought some.

The invoice he got says they're 88.5mm rings, although he has 85.5mm pistons. THe part number on the rings say CPN 3366, which the parts number is the actual bore size, 3.366". Converted to mm, its 85.5.

So...wtf. ???

Yeah, I found it weird too. I was just confused because I hadn't actually opened the package the rings came in just in case he had to return them. I had only read the invoice, which said he ordered 88.5mm rings for his 85.5mm pistons.

I guess Race Eng are a bunch of canadian homos. At least we got the right part.

Do you have the bare block near by?  Can you fit a ring in the bore with out the ends overlapping?

Nah, it's not a bare block yet.

The part number that the rings themselves were packaged in were correct, it's just the stupid invoice that was sent with the package said 88.5mm that confused the shit out of me.

I put 1 set of rings on the piston today and they fit/looked just fine.
