what tiitle say, i was testing my new TIG and my welds have black colour , it welds 200% better than my ex harbor TIG , y tried with different amp. 30-40-50-60 and 70 , not change.. gas is use is 7-8 litre/minute... not sure what i can't get that sexy colour that someones got when welds..

7-8 liters per min seem like a lot, thats like 60 cubic feet an hour if i know the size of a liter.
you shoudl be using about 15 cubic feet per hour, i think that is like less then a liter per minute

are u sure? because 15cfm is like 7 lph...

1 liters = 0.0353146667 cubic feet
1 cubic foot = 28.3168466 liter
15 cubic feet hour = 425L per hour
425 lph/60 mins=7lpm
i was wrong, i didnt know a liter was that small
i was raised in a country where we are accustomed to the ancient way of measuring things

Are you using Argon and not a mix? Your bottle may just have contanimated argon. I got one like that. No matter what I did the welds were dirty. Sharp tungsten and clean? Clean material?

Only ARgon (yellow bottle), ill get another one this saturday, tungsten was new one , cleaned with acetone, samething material..i was testing it only with a 2.5 ss pipe and welds looked black still, ill shoot right now some pics what i means..

Ok how far were you travling? if you go to far your sheilding gas can not cover the cooling weld bead, and the dark color will happen. Also do you have a gas lense? This is very important on SS if you want pretty welds.

im looking for gas lenses in ebay, not sure what ones will fits with my cups (4-5 is what i use normally)

did you weld in one step if so that your problem. i weld that long would be about 3-4 stops. depending on your cup size. and a "4-5 cup" is really small. i use a 8 on most everything and would like to get a bigger cup for tubing.

Try welding 3/4 inch then stopping and letting it cool a bit then repeat. this would help.

That looks like you aren't getting proper flow to the weld. Up your argon flow. Check for flow blockages in the torch. You might also try swapping your tank, you could have a bad tank. Could also be technique, but kind of hard to judge your skills from a picture.

1. it looks like you could have cleaned the material better. use a stainless steel wire brush.
2. it looks like your amperage is too high (too hot).
3. having a gas lense will help.
4. it looks like you aren't adding enough filler in a couple of the pics, try adding even more so the weld is more raised.

Adam, ill try to up the flow a bit and will check if it's better this days.

CSaddict , idk how slow i weld but i think after to watched some videos about welding, i dont weld so slow..i have to melt filler with material... ill try to get dow the amperage.

Aaron, this time, i didnt clean it with wire brush,only with acetone, and some pics of welds i posted , i welded without filler..

ill try this days to weld it again cleaning it better ,up a bit the flow and down amperage a bit.

also check the collet, i think some torches allow you to put them in backwards and they block the argon from coming through

the little brass piece that falls out of the torch if you take the endcap off, the tungsten goes through it and it clamps down on it to hold it in place. some torches you can have it in backwards.

not luck yet, i was using 8 cap with gas lens, too big to me..

tried with 6cup, weld looks a bit small and looks ok to me that size but colour .. sameshit.

i only made a weld with nice colours, all rest, same colour, i dont get that sweet colour on tig welds.

here some pics.

this is the "best colour" i got.

I was looking for 3M pads and found one , cutted as disc and works perfect.

even after clean with 3M pad, used acetone for clean it, idk what im doing wrong.

I tried with 25-30-35 amp (i assume digital numbers that shows my tig welder are amp) and flow from 6-10 lpm, it's something like from 13cfm up to 21cfm.

not sure what is happening

you care to post up a pic of your torch? you could have a leak in the torch. It happened to me when i was pulling it apart a bunch to swap cups from breaking them doing al work. i was slightly unscrewing the gas lense every cup change.

check for leaks at the torch head.
