I have a stock b16a oil cooler and I want to use it on my d16z6 block.

Z6 block filter adapter doesn't look it will come out of the block. (looks like it was pressed in)

So my question is does the z6 filter come out any other way beside pressing it out?

Or does it screw out and I just do not see it?

If I can not use the stock b16 oil cooler does anybody have an oil cooler that does work with d16z6 block and for dirt cheap?

i'm going to go out on a limb and say it screws out like the B-series. I know the ZC had a oil filter cooler sandwich like the B's, I really don't see why they'd change up the design.

I just unscrewed the adapter with a stud remover.

Now I just got to figure out the water plumbing which should be easy. ;D

DOHC ZC does, SOHC ZC doesnt. im not sure if i will notice a lot of difference putting the oil cooler in my actual SOHC ZC..

In America we usually mean DOHC ZC when we say ZC, but yes you are correct.

The oil cooler sandwich plate makes a big difference. I'd run one on any turbo vehicle.

I'm looking at : 1) improving reliability of engine by maintaining good oil and water temps.

2) I want the oil filter stick further back towards the fire wall to have easier oil changes. ;D

3) Its free I'm not passing up an opportunity to improve my set up for the above reasons. :yes:

4) I am a cheap ass any where I can save money building me setup I will.

let me know where do you route one of the hoses that goes to IM. you will need the water pipe that goes from water pump to thermostat too

no I routing water from oem tb hose to cooler since I have np thermal idle adjuster thing on my PBtuning 70mm tb does not require one.

There's a car at the shop that, since removing the OEM GSR oil cooler for an Apexi oil temp/pressure sandwich, runs 20 degree warmer oil temps when idling and after two passes starts oil smoking across the turbo due to 230+ degree oil temps thinning the oil.

Put the OEM oil cooler back on and suddenly the problem goes away.

Warmer oil = more emissions and quicker thermal breakdown.

two way heat exchanger............

on start up the coolant heats the oil but under hardrunning the coolant cools the oil.

You think a HF needs an oil cooler?

I would assume so since they use the same oil filter. The only problem I see is the water lines clock at a wide angle to each other. Giving you clearence issues with the black box for the pcv and with the oil pressure sensor.

On mine I spun the cooler ccw away from the black box about 30 deg.
Then tighten the center adapter.

I got 2 GSR and d15z1 oil coolers a while back, just had other things to do on the car first, then forgot. Technically the GSR's is called an oil cooler, and the Z1's is an oil warmer. I'll explain...

The GSR uses thicker coolant tubes, maybe 1/2" or so. Inlet is fed from the bottom of the water jacket, between cyl 1 & 2. The coolant isn't very hot right there. The Z1 "warmer" uses 3/8" lines or so, and is fed by the water jacket farther up behind cyl #2. The Z1 is probably an easier add-on, since it uses the smaller tubing usually used for the FITV and IACV.

The theory is to heat the Z1 oil quickly, and keep it at a lower viscosity (hotter) for reducing drag. They probably didn't keep them on the HX because the VX was intended more for short city drives, but some hippies had other ideas. On the tests I've seen on viscosity, it helps more than you may think. The GSR intends to warm the oil a bit faster so you can "crack" vtec with less warm-up time, as well as keep oil temps down for hard driving. I've not compaired the fin differences between them, but tube size is all that seems different.

Overall it works well since you keep oil at a consistent temp, rather than overcooling it. Unless you failed at choosing a fan, your ECT's will never be over 205. Oil can get past 240+ in a tracked NA honda, worse with a turbo. It warms it faster, and keeps it cooler. I used to remember what other cars came with them, I think some turbo mazda motors and some VW's.

All the mazda BP's had the oil cooler/warmer like that. Miatas, proteges, 323's, escorts, kia, sephia, and a few others that came with the 1.8L BP. People who care have found oil temps will not go over 210-220 on a street driven miata with the oil warmer/cooler. But if you track the car, then an air/oil works better.
