Anybody ever weld a very large aluminum diesel fuel tank?

How big? I have done a few. Including semi tanker trailers.

This is a 18 wheeler truck tank. I purged it with argon and started welding it but I dont like what I am seeing so fuck it. I dont need to die today.

my brother welds them, he runs air through them for a day or 2, then welds em no big deal

I filled it with argon and welded some of it but I didnt like the flamable vapor coming out of the tank so I said fuck it.

Try welding on a natural gas line.....as long as no oxygen inside the pipe, no problems.

More fun doing the welding in a ditch or pit....that gets fill with gas. Like a match, throw it in the hole, whoosh!......roll in and start welding.

The tanks I worked on were pressure washed then etched. They were similar to this:

well doesnt disel only combust under immense pressure anyways.

has anybody ever tried to light diesel on fire with a match.

Welding torch's burn a little hotter then a match.  ;)

Also I have started a number of number of campfires with a little diesel and a match.

I have been told buy our welders at work when they weld drop tanks for the jet they wash them out with Dawn dish soap first. Im sure if the navy does it is probably ok. GL

I've welded lots of diesel and gasoline tanks, clean them out real good with soapy water or a detergent that removes oil, leave the cap open, and weld away.

He's not welding a tanker he's welding a saddle tank. If he can fit through the filler cap he has bigger problems than welding up that crack.
