no shitin you, this happened at my work. a guy bumped the racks and it took them all down, about 80feet long and 2 levels high.
stupid thing was is the racks were bolted together but not to the floor.
racks had multi-millions worth of sysco systems computer parts. lots of damage, was a fucking dust storm for hours.

wtf do you think bolting down a rack is going to do?

You buckle a corner support and the weight it supported is now hanging on the surrounding supports with a nice lever arm. Stamped steel is not meant to support against torque just support weight. Combine that with now overloading because of the missing support and the next row of supports will buckle.

Watch the video you can see the posts bend like snapping toothpicks before the whole thing drops.

That is why you see the large concrete filled steel posts next to structural supports in most factories and warehouses with machinery forklifts etc. THAT is what will stop something like this not bolting the erector set to the floor.

It's a $5 possible prevention measure I would have taken. That and not having either shitty equipment with sticking throttles, or hiring non fucktards

Bolting them down properly prevent the house of cards effect. This rackes were NOT overloaded.

No bollards or guard rails = certain fail.

I know in lowes their racks are 20x beefier. Like all 6" I beam construction, and they're bolted down to the floor like whoa. But I suppose that's because customers will be walking around and they want zero chance of a collapse. But I could imagine you could drive 5 fork lifts simultaneously into a Lowes rack and it wouldn't fall over or collapse.
