H22 Bearing codes and location
« on: March 15, 2009, 04:23:11 AM »

Of course I'm being a snobby little bitch and asking for help here lately
All I can find is a dead ended H-T thread about H bearing codes

On my block close to flywheels side I have a 5 numberic code
32232  is that green ,"brown/orange", brown/orange , green, brown orange    ? Color code with number code is what I need
now is this for the top and bottom mains? Because I dont think they would have seperate code for the block/girdle.
I've searched over the girdle and cant find anything other than the maker of the girdle
All I have gathered is this

But the whole color coding I'm trying to decipher
And the Rod bearing code is on the crank from what I read but I cant find shit unless the impression is really faint.

I know Spiker will chime in and it's like 430am Indiana time so I know his blackness is in bed.
And for the friend that just lost a H motor due to a retard at a oil station. I feel for you.

Is that all that I need to go by or is there more?

Different colors on the same journals are to kind of split the difference in sizes...
Fuck that shit. Get the tolerances, start with pink go from there

All my rod bearings are pink. tolerances were perfect.

Mains look like this (not that yours will):
1 pink/pink
2 pink/pink
3 green/green
4 pink/pink
5 green/green

Not all the journals call for the same spec.

I have the specs for both whats called for, and what im running for clearances (both rods and mains), but Im not posting them. Its working for me (Obviously).

I know yours will be different that mine, thats not the issue I'm really having
I'm having issues with the numerics/color decoding. MY eyes are burning when I try to read the small print nigga

Ok I found the crank codes after soaking down with cleaner

from timing belt to flywheel direction
3B 3 A 4 A 2 B 5
But last time a had a shop assemble the bottom end and now looking at the girdle bearings, they are all green so

Crank code does not match up to bearing spec or am I looking at rod bearing code?

Who cares what the colors are dude. Know what clearance you want to run, then do the measuring to figure out which color thickness you need.

BC = BH - JD -(2xBT)

BC = bearing clearance
BH = Bore housing diameter
JD = journal diameter
BT = Bearing thickness

Main Bearing thickness by color
Blue 2.013-2.010 mm 0.0793”- 0.0791”
Black 2.010-2.007 mm 0.0791”- 0.0790”
Brown 2.007-2.004 mm 0.0790”- 0.0789”
Green 2.004-2.001 mm 0.0789”- 0.0788”
Yellow 2.001-1.998 mm 0.0788”- 0.0787”
Pink 1.998-1.995 mm 0.0787”- 0.0785”
Red 1.995-1.992 mm 0.0785”- 0.0783”

Rod bearing thickness by color
Blue 1.510-1.507 mm 0.0594”- 0.0593”
Black 1.507-1.504 mm 0.0593”- 0.0592”
Brown 1.504-1.501 mm 0.0592”- 0.0591”
Green 1.501-1.498 mm 0.0591”- 0.0590”
Yellow 1.498-1.495 mm 0.0590”- 0.0589”
Pink 1.495-1.492 mm 0.0589”- 0.0587”
Red 1.492-1.489 mm 0.0587”- 0.0586”
