Sandbag filling stations on the street in front of my house

The city has ordered everyone to tie their dikes together... Fuck my life.

Tie up all the dykes!  :P Oh dikes. NVM.  Good luck up there.

I don't think anyone gets it. This is the highest predicted flood in History PERIOD. This doesnt happen every year, or even every 5 yrs.

Someone needs to come up with a sandbag filling contraption.

Someone needs to come up with a sandbag filling contraption.

Someone would forget it and leave it for the flood water to take it back to china.

Someone needs to come up with a sandbag filling contraption.

Fargo(other side of the river) uses 2 giant sand bag filling contraptions that can do 500 bags / hour. But, the sand we have here has a lot of clay in it, so it clogs up the machines. The cone contraptions we have can do 2 bags every 5 seconds if your going quick. now mind you there is probably a hundred stations in Moorhead with those cone things, so were going plenty fast. Plus Fargos sandbags are built at the fargodome, then palletized and shipped out from there. Some bags are traveling 5 miles on a trailer. Moorhead has a filling station in each neighborhood so the bags have to go maybe a quarter mile max. They brough a bag filling machine into our neighborhood last night. The one Moorhead uses is portable and works pretty well, but it sews the bags shut. That makes clean up way harder.

Video from my walkout basement at 38.3 ft(River is supposed to Crest at 41.)
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v294/atmospere_adikt/?action=view&current=floodwall382.flv

We are really only worried about Seapage at this point the flood wall has proven itself strong enough to hold. The top pieces are on because the city ordered us to build another foot on top It isnt projected to get that high so we didnt worry about putting plastic over it, just enough to make the city happy.

Do you realize you've built a house around your house to protect your house? That's a lot more work than I'd like to do.
Spening 1200 dollars to protect a 200k home isnt a big deal I dont think.

This mornings project... There will be more to come like this. I think this should work....

it's for sure a ton of work to do but it's necessary. we've got  some sandbagging going on along the red river over too but it has been slowed due to the blizzard that just came through. also the red river is ice jammed, so the water is rising even faster.

So at what point do you call it a loss, abandon ship and call the insurance company, and pray they don't need to ask for a bailout to cover the current flood event?

why not build a stone wall and be done for evah with it ???

granted it'll cost you more than 1200 but you won't have to worry or think about it anymore

good luck though

I'm guessing he got a taste of what we got in WI, his whole town washed away, and he's in some Canadian refugee camp w/o internet.
