So i just got back from inservice friday and it was all about how to deal with this new breed of inmates who don't give a fuck and will assault an officer faster than an inmate and they showed us this video.

Prison Stabbing

I thought that shit was pretty funny.

And a Use Of Force video compliments of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Listen to the inmates making the siren sound in the begining. Pretty funny, any time we have to get up in the ninja turtle outfit to get an inmate they all make this noise.

Yeah im a correctional officer. Its a fun ass job. I don't work with men though. Im on the womans death row unit in gatesville texas, mountain view is its name.

I was a corrections officer for a couple of years. Never should have quit that job. Had more than my fair share of fights and drugs, and shit. I don't know why, but shakedown time was always fun.

All the CO's I've ever met were no better than the criminals they baby sit. Most are worse. Seems to be one of those jobs that attracts scummy people.

this is %99 true. The amount of drugs in prison is astounding, and its USUALLY the officers bringing it.

There's gotta be at least a couple of good people trying to do that job, and a couple prison corrupted innocent people in the mix as well. As for the rest of them, why would anyone risk anything to keep them safe?

I guess it's probably not AS crazy as "lockup" makes it seem, but with a bunch of lifers who deserve it, there's no point in babysitting.

In all honesty, lockup doesn't show the half of it. Think about it, your locked in your cell 23-24 hours a day. Your only entertainment is books and magazines (if you are a good inmate thats not on restriction) and the officers. You fuck with them all day long. A use of force is fun for everybody. Gives all the inmates something to scream and yell at and pass the time with. And really, when you know you will die in prison, why not? You could kill a CO and just get a couple 15's in solitary as your punishment cuz there is nothing else they can do to you. They don't care if you are a chaplain or a warden, if you piss them off they will fuck you up.

It was always my impression that the lifers were USUALLY the best behaved. We had an incident between a life guy and a small time drug charge kid, and the lifer beat the shit out of him. Upon questioning him, he said "I'm in this bitch for life, I have to live here, I don't want this punk kid coming in my block starting shit with people." They seriously want there peace, and just to finish their life out without some bullshit. It's usually the short term gang bangers that cause the most/serious problems.
It's not as bad as some say, but its no cake walk. Ususally as long as you aren't a dick to them, and treat them with SOME respect, you won't get shit. I worked there for a little over 2 years and was only in 3 fights, one of which I could have walked away from. But then again, you don't walk away from a fight in prison, NO inmate will respect you after that. And that was a fight that landed me and the inmate in a hospital.
Also, you have to have some ethics. Inmates WILL offer you BIG money to bring in dope. Some do have it, and they will pay. I'm talking $500 for a cell phone, $500 for a quarter sack, insane shit. SO many officers get wrapped up in the dope game, then when the heat is on, they can't get out, b/c the inmate will blackmail them to keep them bringing shit in. Since I started until now (father and step father still work there) I've known about 12 that have gone down for it. That's a class b felony, mandatory 5 years, no good time. Some people are just weak. And inmates know when you are having problems, they can see it. That's when you get appproached, and the money is tempting, believe me. But eventually, they all get caught.
I was at a level 5 max sec prison, and also on the CERT team. Running the shield is fun, especially when it's the stun shield. I hate being the spray guy, or getting the legs. But 8 out of 10 times when we came up in gear for an extraction, they would just come out, they know we're coming in heavy and oc/cs gas is nothing to laugh at.

Yeah alot of the lifers are like that. But the fucked up g5's/ gang members and people like that want it a different way. The drug game is a bitch too. Its hard when the state only pays you so much and these inmates offer something so easy to do. But its not worth it for sure. They are cracking down so bad on all the shit now. We get pat searched daily in and out of the unit, Even forgeting your cell phone in your pocket before you come in and finding it at the front gate is a disciplinary offense. And we don't have the stun sheilds. I wish we did, cuz we hold crisis management at out unit and they are all psyched out/ drugged out offenders and gas doesn't work on them, so its always brute force to put them down.
