Anyone here worked over there as a civilian? Gonna be heading there on the 20th for a year, trying to get a good idea of what to expect from the civy side of things.

Pay is in the six figure range, 90k of that is tax free, awesome benefits that continue after the year is up (contract has an option of 4 additional years w/ combination of here, there, and European locations). 8 weeks paid vacation a year, and free round trip airfare for that vacation.

Gonna be doing IT/SatCom/VOIP work at an FOB.

Can't bring my own ammo/gun into the country, as it's a huge no-no. The ops manager I spoke with today said I will probably be provided one depending on which FOB I am at. Waiting for him to call me back in 2 hours. That's when I get to make my decision

Do it have fun. It ain't even that bad over there. If you're gonna be way out in the middle of nowhere just know where the extra weapons and ammo are kept. Enjoy your time there. It's odd how it grows on you.

My friend did that twice, both times he got unemployment too, top tier payout. First time he didn't stay too long, paid lotsa bills and bought a new truck. CASH. I mean waited 10 days the bank mandates, filled up a breif case, and dropped it in their faces. 2nd time he went and bought a decent house. This time it was only a wire transfer.

I think he was in Iraq. He said his was more intel junk, and he just stayed in the compound. No booze since it was iraq. Dry, dusty, hot, boring. Unless you like butseks.
