.ISO dvd burning.
« on: December 12, 2009, 12:27:32 PM »

Im trying to burn a movie from my computer using a hp DVD1040 external dvd writer. Its an .ISO file. I have tried using alcohal 120%, but it keeps telling me to insert a blank disc. I know im using a blank discs becuase they are brand new dvd-rw's and i have already checked them. So im looking for some kind of software thats free that will burn these .ISO files. I also have power2go, but it won't recognize this file type. Windows dvd maker won't either. Anybody have any other suggestions?

i don't think isos will play in a dvd player.

i always used dvd shrink and nero to make copies of my dvds.  my burner took a shit on me when i knocked it off the desk, and i've been too cheap to buy another one lately

Yeah its worked before, it copies everything. Stuff like bonus features and chapters and shit like that. I burned madagascar 2 way back when it first came out and it worked perfect but then alcohal 120 stopped working on me. It will still let me play movies by mounting the .ISO image on a drive but it won't let me burn them. Does Nero burn ISO dvds?

You have trouble with reading comprehension don't you?

When you're trying to burn do you have the external drive selected as the destination?  Does it even appear as an option? Is it a + or - writer and do you have the correct discs?

This thread smells of failure and linux.

Only because Linux was mentioned, does it also smell of fail.

As mentioned, check your burner's specs to see if it can read +rw or -rw discs, whatever you have. I can't find the specs easily, so it must be an older POS or brand-new.

Next, check to see you have the right drive selected. Nero always chooses my plextor cd-r when I install it, and I forget to select the other drive - has made me nuts before. Also make sure your drivers, if needed, are installed. An invisible drive can't be written to.

Third, make sure it has good power. Some usb devices require a 2nd usb plug or wall inverter for power, otherwise they'll get I/O errors up to wazoo.

Fourth, try Nero Micro. Get it from a torrent to try it out - it will do practically anything, it just has lots of settings you can mess with.

Fifth - try Linux. It's for people who are scared of pirating and don't have need for the other million specialty apps for PC that Linux doesn't have. I'll add "yet" since I know someone will say some code monkey is working on them in between his WoW adventures.

This is what I use:
http://www.poweriso.com/

Find a torrent here:
http://www.torrentz.com/search?q=power+ISO

You can just use the .iso file, mount it to a virtual drive and save $$$ on retarded physical media.

Quit with the Linux faggotry.  You don't need security apps with Windows unless your 21st chromosome is defective.

IMGBurn is free (even for Windows ZOMG) and should handle anything to do with images.

If it won't burn the image then there's something wrong with your drive or image or disc, NOT with your OS.

TRUE.

try Linux. It's for people who don't have need for anything more complex than checking their email and looking at porn without getting viruses by clicking on stupid shit because your dick is hard, and comes out of the box, so to speak, incapable of any advanced interfacing task beyond traditional computer-to-computer networking without the need to be a software engineer who drops a thousand man hours to replicate free or cheapware commonly available under Windows.  A lot of stuff you can emulate through VMware, but that shit flat doesn't work for any specialized application, period.

well played, sir

As a file/web server, I love the nix.  I have two machines in which I've never left the confines of bash...

For something that "works", where all hardware works, and apps are plentiful (and work), without having to compile or use emulators or use wrappers to possibly make a driver work...you know, when I feel like getting on a computer and quickly doing shit and having choices, I like Win7 just fine.

I can get any windows program to run in Linux, including xp, vista, and 7 inside Linux :noel:

That's cool, but I think the point was, if you use Windows and aren't a moron -- why bother having to make shit work?  Everything works with Windows, and if you're not a moron it's completely stable and problem-free, and everything works without having to make it work.

There are brighter guys than you that can't get software I use frequently to work correctly through Linux.  BTW, I am typing to you from the first computer I've owned in six years that has an antivirus software installed.  When I've had exactly one trojan (easily removed) in that time I really can't understand the need to waste the system resources.  However, four cores = that shit can run in the background and I never notice.
