Topic: HELP my computer says i need to activate windows when i start it WTF (Read 4814 times)

OK...idk what happend but when i used my computer last it was on. when i got offline i kept it on. but when i went to use it the other day it was shut off. so i started it up. and it says i need to activate my windows or something and it gives spaces to enter some kind of 25 diget key code thing.... and my start menu bar at the bottom of the screen is gone and so r all my short cuts...so i am pretty much screwed i even tried calling these people i just got a big run around and still have nothing...BUT i found out that you can go to their web site on the activate menu witch will bring up internet explorer(i use firefox) but anyways if i right click on something and then scroll down and open SAVE AS. it will bring up the menu were i can click on my computer my documents..ECT...well if i go to anything on their like programs or something and right click it and open it then -BAMM- my start menu bar and shortcuts and everything will start loading up and appear like always/(normal) but it will only last like 10 sec. and then disappear and ill be back at the activate windows screen were i have to enter that 25 key thing but everything is still on my computer its just gone(hidden) or something.. GUYZ PLEASE HELP MEEE i need my computer to work again.. oh and i have windows XP(im really hurt right now. i need all u to help me out with this shit its SUCKS)))))

Did you try rebooting in safe mode and then doing a system restore to last known good config?

If its a laptop look on the bottom on the windows sticker, enter the registration key. If its a desktop, look around on the back of the case for the windows registration sticker with the key on it. What version of xp is it? If you cant find the reg #, download a keygen, or I may have a key for you. I think i have a xp pro key somewhere

yea i tried that and it wont even load in safe mode it will start loading and them freeze in the same spot everytime and when i do the start at a eariler time it wont work ....

keelay thanks u might me my comp saver its not a labtop but i bought this comp and the guy kinda built it and it has some stupid spider case houseing so no key on the housing let me try the keys u have THANKS man i hope this works and its windows xp but i think it might be a windows xp hack soo idk

Also, disconnect the internet source to the comp you are working on before you enter the key, they may or may not be valid. After you get the key in and windows up, then reconnect your instawebs. You may or may not get a "Not a genuine Windows Copy" warning in your taskbar, but you can close it.
Also, Ubuntu is free, as is Kubuntu, Solaris, etc...

ok tried those and NOTHING i changed the product key and then called in all the numbers over the phone so they can give me what ever letter or numbers i need but it said something was invaded or something man i think i got a virus or something

yea but im just trying to figure out what happend because everything worked fine and then idk what happend...i can get windows 7 installed for like 80 bucks but christmas killed me and also i dont want to loose my stuff on my computer i have now

Microsoft realized that you do not have a valid license key, that's what happened. If you are a student you can order Windows 7 directly from MS for $30.

It's full Win7 Professional. Running x64 on both my desktop and HTPC, works nicely.

I've never heard of it blocking your start menu and all that...

You could download Win7 RC1 and find a key, or I have a few at home, it's good for a year.

Or just search "windows 7 BIE" on your favorite torrent search engine and download the latest one (they usually have one every month). They're easy enough for any fool to install...just make sure not to format what you have

If I had a student discount, or it was reasonably priced, I'd buy a legit version. Win7 is well worth it IMO.

I haven't messed with 7 alot yet, but from what I did see, it seems it was geared more towards plug and play networking, and appearance
