Retrofitting honda internals into another dizzy
« on: January 03, 2010, 02:19:53 PM »

I'm trying to convert the dizzy guts from a honda to the dizzy guts into my toyota DLI unit.  I'm planninng on gutting out both of them, using the wheel  and sensor from the honda unit into the DLI cas.

So my plan is such:

Put the honda wheeel into the DLI unit, retrofit the hall sensor or w/e it is honda uses. I then want to wire the coils/ignotors externally.  Ill probably use toyota cops or something.   Any suggestions on how to achive this feat?  I'm wondering what fires the coils inside the distributer, is it mechanical or does the ecu do it?  I think the difficult thing is going to be retrofitting the ignitor bit, which might make this kina hard to do.

Honda wheel?  You know there are three of them?  And all the Toy units I've ever seen were too goddamn shallow?

Wouldn't it be easier to retrofit something like a T1 hall sensor setup, or do a flywheel trigger?

yeah the toy units are smaller than the honda units.  It's going to be easier to figure out how to spin the honda dizzy.

Yeah after reading about all this shit and looking into the honda dizzy im concluded that DSM link and a 1g dsm cas would be easier to retrofit and use.  Life would be so much easier if i wasn't so god damned cheap.

I was  under the impression that their was only 1 wheel in the honda dizzy.  I can't find a damned blow up pic.

As far as timing it, it wont be much different than stock. Set to TDC, line up dizzy ect.

How is a DSM CAS any easier than a Honda distributor?

With the honda distributer I have to mount to the front of the motor. The damned thing is huuuuge and its also a pita to fabricate a means to attach to the cam gear. The cas, can be mounted to the side of the motor whre the original distributer goes.  Here are a few pics of the DLI cas that was originally on my motor.

My dli unit:

You can see right away that I think its to damned small for the wheel. I might grind down the outside or something.

By mating up the DSM cas to the DLI unit somehow it can fit pretty easily after the initial work is done.  Ideally the best thing to do would be to perhaps put the 20v distributer guts into my dli thing. Since they are both 24 tooth, but fuck I duno lol.  I get bored in the winter and do make work projects.

I wanted to put this wheel into my  dli case.

Here is the location of the original install spot, its where the dizzy is.

4A dual cam = plenty of room.

If you are cheap and want to go the dsm cas/ecu method why don't you use the 1g ecu and jackal?   It's definitly alot cheaper than dsmlink.  I know that won't be th popular thing on here but it would work alright.

The unpopularity here is his recent comments about 1G CAS and DSMLink.

There is plenty of room JD, but its more of a hastle to fit the Dizzy as opposed to the DSM cas. What i just realized tho is that hondata is map but Dsm's run maf. So im not sure what to do atm.  When the guys at pgmfi did their adapator it was quite a bit more complicated than what i plan to do.

Fawk, i cant find the thread on pgmfi.org

I'm not sure what that means, unless it just means dsm = bad idea lol.

Lol ok ill look into it.  I'm waiting for Minorthreat to get back from cuba.  I want to steal his cas so i can look at it.  I was under the impression you can get dsmlink for free if you want.   Fuck I duno if i want to switch to maf, and it seems dsm link has a bunch of weird tuner things I don't understand.  I just wanna ditch this ford edis shit.

Gotcha.
I was just commenting about the popularity of honda/vs anything else, especially anything DSM on this site lol.

DSMlink is expensive.  If you are interested in DSM CAS and using the 1g DSM ecu, then go to http://forums.ds-map.net/index.php and do some reading around.   Free, speed density(uses MAP instead of MAF), and uses cheap 1g DSM EEPROM ecus.

Hopefully that makes sense and I didn't make an ass out of myself, been drinking :P .

Aero, can you find out how thick the CAS shaft is, and how big the cas wheel is? Like get some measurements for me?

Just to clarify, I got some of my info mixed up. I was under the impression dsmlink was free, when in fact I think it was jackal and werewolf that I was considering using.  But I have looked into the software a bit and the honda shit is alot more developed and neptune is free.

I would think it would be easier to spin some shit on a lathe and adapt the whole honda dizzy to the toy.

yea, im still trying to figure out how adapting a whole honda distributor is more work than swapping everything inside the honda distributor.
