Title: Turbo LEAKING oil
Post by: b20beast on March 25, 2009, 09:29:31 PM
When my car is switched off, oil LEAKS out my garrett t3 t4, by the turbine side where you clock the turbo thru a bolt.

What the hell could be the cause

Seals could be going? Rip off the compressor housing and take a took.

what turbo is this?  what size oil line? restrictor?

garrett t3 t4 60trim/ .63

-3an feed

1/2" oil drain

drain wasnt too good, so i clocked turbo about 45* and let it drain downhill.

not sure why oil will leak with car off and thru the bolt.

not sure what you mean but i rebuilt it

how would oil be leaking when no oil is feeding inside the turbo?

i am not missing a bolt
bolt is tight

and how likely is it that the seals blew in 5 minutes of driving?

poorly clocked? If it smokes its the seals. What kind of oil are you using, also you need a restrictor unless you have a MASSIVE turbo to feed. Does your turbo sit very low? Pictures would help.

oil is 10w30 castrol
but im not sure its a restrictor because when the engine is off there is no oil pressure

so why would it drop out the middle part of the turbing housing?

only in and out play, no left to right

Its fuckked, dont run it anymore unless you want it to eat the turbine, and compressor wheels up  Pull it off and have it rebuilt.

I agree with this.  Same thing hapened to me my turbo was leaking out of the hot side but had no shaft play, 500 miles later it has all kinds of play.  the oil is leaking out of your turbine when its spinning but only pores out of the center section wen it stops moving.  Get it!

theres no seals on the hot side just the shaft piston ring.
It looks like this

stop calling yourself a pro, you don't need to a pro to send your turbo to a rebuilder.
Just because you put the turbo together and *rebuilt* it, doesn't mean it won't have problems. Rebuilding a turbo is usually not a DIY garage project.

Your a fucking idiot. You put a freshly rebuilt turbo back on the same oil system and your back again to square one. fucking install a stealthmode restricter adapter and call it a fucking day

not sure why oil will leak with car off and thru the bolt.

When the car is on, it BURNS UP before it can make it outside the turbo. What did you think happened to oil when it dances with 800*F exhaust gasses??

Also, if the chra is more than 30* from vertical (centerline of inlet & outlet) then you will create a puddling effect inside the turbo. This is another reason it leaks profusely when its off, although its very bad for the turbo while its running too. You can blow oil seals in under 5 mins with JUST a crappy drain, no restrictor, or having the turbo off-center. You ran it with 3 out of 3. BTW putting a restrictor in it now won't do shit, the seals are fucked and only a rebuild will fix that.

Learn how to use a turbo next time, thanks for playing.  :-X

but how can the seals blow?
isnt it just like a piston ring?

wont it have to wear down?
