any time you smoke an engine there is a vwery good chance you got metel fileings in the oil befor it went. Metel fileing on a bearing spinning @ 100,000 rpm = weak souce.
Only if you're dumb enough to use a sandwich adapter that uses the unfiltered oil. Given your taste in CDM parts, I'd guess that was the case.
I've never seen a motor blow up and get to the point of opening the filter's bypass. In all cases the pickup gets stuck with shit, and the motor stops fast enough. In short, the only thing that will kill a turbo internally is feeding it unfiltered oil, or not enough oil.
