« on: January 13, 2010, 12:55:03 AM »

ok so its my buddies car, says it wont start after its ran for awhile. so that leads me to believe its a main relay issue? its a 98 civic. car is completely stock. what else could be causing the problem?

Don't forget the ignition switch, there was a recall/TSB about it.

You'd think Honda's had Lucas components.

I never experienced any of this Lucas failure people spoke of in British cars.  It was the same crappy bullet connector garbage that the Big 3 perpetrated, and the two cars I drove around for years had no electrical problems.  Magnetti Marelli, however, fucking sucked - I surmise the founder's children went on to pollute northern Jersey.

Lucas makes shit to the automaker's spec, like any other OEM manufacturer.  Beru makes the Porsche coils that never goes bad, they also make the VW coils that fail fail fail fail.  They (Lucas) are also the world leader in airplane electronics.

FYI, there's never been a Jag worth a shit until Ford started making them.

I never argued your entirely valid bit of info about the ignition switches, Chuck.  Don't you want to argue Lucas electronics with me??   :P

More like you can't fit in one.

Not really a stab, okay maybe a little, but I only fit in my GT6 by sliding the seat all the way back and leaning it all the way back.  As it is, I'm 30 lbs too heavy to be comfortable in one.  7.5'X4.5' cars FTL.

RHD MGB, I fit nicely, but it was a EP race car. I'm also drove a Sunbeam Tiger with a choked 347. Damn restrictor via SCCA.

But you having dealt with Lucas, you atleast have an excuse for your baldness.

Hard to put the top down on a GT6.

What part of I never had a problem did you misread?  I broke a bunch of halfshaft u-joints until I realised the shaft was bent, after that it was smooth sailing.  Then I Sewell'd the car, just like he did his 930.

no the fuel pump IS  priming like it should, thats why I was asking could it still be a main relay issue.

Im going to try the stuff you suggested. If it is the ignition switch would that have caused it to die and then not be able to start back up but still crank?

Since the main relay controls the fuel pump, and the fuel pump primes correctly, you definitely have a main relay problem.
