The suit is not one piece, it just looks that way so you don't get stabbed.  Foil is a pretty thin sword but still hits kind of hard. Saber will hurt it is a rigid sword and thrusts/blade hits count and the head is on target.

Also it's fun as fuck to fence.   It takes intelligence and agility and that's not something you get exercise together often.
