eBay gaskets/seals
« on: April 10, 2010, 12:52:57 AM »

Any of you used the eBay gaskets/seals? I figured they are probably just as good as the ones Vato Zone sells but unfortunately they don't have the ones I need. The OEM valve cover gasket is $16, or I can have the valve cover gasket/spark plug seals/top end grommets for the same price. Not sure how fitment or durability is though.

Pretty simple shit, not sure how they could fuck it up.  I think I paid $30ish for all of that at the auto store.

They actually had the ones for the valve cover gasket? Every one I have replaced I always went through Honda because they didn't carry them at the retail stores.

Yes, the one on my build was around $30, I think I got it from advance auto, just search valve cover and they'll have a gasket or seal kit with all the grommets, the vc gasket, and the spark plug gaskets.

Yeah I looked and they did have it. I was thinking the vtec solenoid gasket not valve cover gasket. I'm pretty sure the cam seal is leaking on mine so I'm going to just replace the vtec solenoid gasket, cam seal, valve cover gasket, spark plug gaskets when I redo the valve cover.

There's quite a few ways OEM seals/gaskets differ from the cheaper ones. They don't have the same standards of quality when making the product. They're also made of lesser quality materials. OEM gaskets last 100k+ miles sometimes even 200k, I've yet to see any ebay gasket do that.

I use ebay gaskets, but OEM seals. I've found in many instances that the non OEM seals(or at least the cheaper ones) tend to not be the correct size. A prime example are the cam seals. The cheap ones are 1mm too small in OD. Enough of a difference for the seal to spin in place or a leak to happen with the slightest hint of blow by.

People will price out OEM shit at the stealership, but then wonder about ebay shit. Most parts counter guys set a huge markup on sub-$100 stuff. Price out OEM stuff at an online dealership like hondapartsdeals.com and you'll be much happier. I think that specific site also has $10 off of free shipping with some hater-tech,com code.

The one thing I'd suggest you do get is the OEM cam seal, specifically the newer p72/gsr version. That is if you don't get an LS head for free that has an STR seal in it like I did. ;)

I used a set of seals from ebay on my ZC and the bottom of my car looks like the exxon valdez wrecked.  OEM or nothing.

+1 used all ebay gaskets on my z6 build, ended up replacing the headgasket and started buying felpro's, but blew them too :P. Other than that the only gasket i've had leak was teh VC gasket, but a catchcan remedied that.

Eh I'll probably opt for the Felpro crap. I have used it before and it's only a couple bucks more than the eBay crap. Too bad they don't make the Vtec solenoid gasket, $25+ for that tiny seal is ridiculous. I don't know if mine is leaking or not, seeing as how it's right on the outside and takes 2 min to change I'll probably wait on that one unless I find out it's leaking  Jew

I'd personally use ebay before the felpro seals.

I bought a felpro oil pan gaket once, for whatever reason it was not the same material as oem and did not hold up. It leaked within a month and I have used ebay gaskets ever since.

I've used the eBay gasket kits on a few motors. For the most part, they work just fine. I wouldn't use the HG though

I bought an ebay gasket set for the miata. oil pan gasket was wrong, oil pump gasket was wrong, head gasket was too thick/probably not working properly, several other gaskets it came with were wrong too. I'll never buy another ebay gasket set.
