mpfi swap problem
« on: April 12, 2010, 01:56:11 AM »

so i just did a mpfi swap on the civic, got it to start but it backfires through the intake like crazy any time you open the throttle.
throws code 9, cylinder position sensor.
starts right up, idles fine, and i can rev it slowly through the backfires all the way to redline.
dizzy position doesnt change it at all, swapped the 2 blue wires on the dizzy but didnt change anything either.

also, i was told this intake was an a6, but the injectors are high impedence. i got some injector clips off an integra that fit that injectors that are in this manifold.

also i already swapped out for a known good igniter.(had a code 15 befor but ended up not having the plugs pushed all the way in)

Also don't forget to take a volt meter to the injectorator jets. Sometimes the ball and seat jam up. Double check the metering blocks as well and make sure you adjust the floats in the injectorator correctly.

Fucking Jay, you know those injectorators are bulletproof on 88-91's. It's just their hollow float design that sucks for boost, and he's not turbo yet.

Assuming timing is correct...(common retard "but it looked okay" prob) Sounds like a bad dizzy to me, although code 4/crank pos sensor is a more common problem. That's the one that forces limp mode. It could also be a bad ecu. If you swapped the wires for it and nothing changed, either the sensor (whole dizzy) isnt' sending a signal or the ecu isn't precieving the signal.

I doubt it's a wiring prob since the other sensor is far mroe sensitive.

Timing is off.
cant be, it does the same thing whether its all the way forward or all the way back.
that dizzy did come off a running car right jay?

i guess the dizzy position not affecting it may be due to that fact the cps is bad?

i will try to find someone here in town with a stock pm6 that i can stick in there to rule out the ecu.

That distributor came right off of my a6 that I just smogged with. Maybe you mixed up the 2 cyp wires?

i know 100% that distributor and the internals are fine.

i would triple check the wiring for the conversion.  also check to make sure all of the pins  are all the way in at the ecu

checked the resistance on the cps in the dizzy, and at the wires to the ecu-both check out fine. i must have pulled a buk and bought another junk ecu.

what injectorators are these
« Reply #13 on: April 13, 2010, 08:53:02 PM »

i swapped the injectorator wires to every possible combination, only gets worse when i did that.
car idles perfect, starts perfect but backfires through intake when revved fast.
new plugs were soaked in gas and totally covered in soot. only thing left is these injectors, im pretty sure the intake manifold is off an A6 but the injectors are high impedance, A6 should be low imp.

what are these?

Wait wait wait, have you actually solved the code 9 issue yet?  If you havn't, fuck the injectors and get back to tracing wires and checking your timing again and again and again until you get that fixed.  Once code 9 is fixed, then troubleshoot the other shit.

I yanked one of the injectors off my spare D15B7 mani and they look exactly like the ones you posted. Same markings, same plug, even the number is almost the same (4106 on mine though).

What's with selling A6 manifolds with the wrong gen injectorators...When I got mine it ended up having OBD2 injectors on it  :?:

well with the ones in this manifold being high impedence i dont fucking get it. it should run right with hi imp injectorators, right? either that or they test high imp because their fucked up.

Dumb question, but since I didn't see it asked already- you didn't wire in a resistor box, right?

Maybe just try it with some OBD0 injectors and a resistor box

no as i was wireing up the resistor box i decided to check the resistance of the injectors and the found out they were high.
i will try to get some obd0 injectors but all the yards around here want 20+ per injector

put them in your pocket or take the resistor box out

did not wire in the resistors

anyway it runs perfect now, i knew it was going to be something totally fucking stupid and it was.

so im fucking leaning over the car unplugging the tps while its running (to swap the pins, ended up being right in the first place) and i get shocked by one of the plug wires.

these are brand new wires that i got off a guy on craigslist. the number 2 wire has a burn hole through it right where the little plastic clip it that holds all 4 wires apart and it was jumping to that little support bracket on the valve cover. anyway swapped out the wire for an old one and it fucking runs perfect.

thanks for your help

now all it need is some boost.
