Shifter slop cure, anyone know of one???
« on: July 13, 2010, 11:35:54 PM »

The "slop" I'm referring to is when the car is in gear, I can still move the shifter about 3-4" side to side.  Tried the energy suspension bushings and Steel washers in the past which helped a little but meh...  Any input as to which bushings/pieces would clean up the shifter slop the most?

new shift linkages, if the shifter replacement + new bushings doesnt do the trick it means the lower linkage connection at the tranny is just beat to shit (near #12)

Sounds like the joint on the change rod is as worn out as your mother's anus.

That is unless you are a savage that used a bolt instead of a roll pin to attach the change rod to the transmission gear selector shaft.

I heard  that the rcautoworks thing makes a world of difference but its really expensive, and i only heard about it on dseries.org and you know those guys would be banned for saying  anything but the best about the sponsors. You could get a new bitchpin. That helped mine alot. Pr you can go the rhmt route and replace the bitchpin with a bolt and nut

for those here who like to weld, the joint is only $60 from Summit or Jegs.

http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/60730/10002/-1

But don't forget the rubber O-rings in the bottom of the shifter that died from exhaust heat.

Cure, new shifter with bearings in it, if that doesn't work then add the steering joint.

I plan on doing both to the CRX over the winter when it gets put into storage.

If you're a really cheap nignog, strip the chrome off a harbor freight 3/8" ratchet swivel adapter and weld it up. Cut a balloon or used condom, zip-tie it over the joint after filling with grease, profit.

Mcmaster.com has cheaper deals w/o boots if you don't mind sealing it yourself. Tape would even work.

I have the same problem. When I'm in 1st gear, if I push to the right, you think I'm in 5th gear.

The problem, is 5 and 6 on the diagram on the bottom of the shifter. I tried to solve the problem with new o-rings on the sleeve, but still has a lot of play...

Mine is rusted to dead tho..
