Use a z6 or a6 belt. Your doing it wrong if a 1.5L belt with a completely different deck height fits.

Eh.

88 A6 cam is keyed on the D15 index.  The difference should be in the cam gear.

If the head's been milled, block decked, it's not uncommon to be a half tooth or more off, although it doesn't seem to be "more" since you always set it by the closest tooth.

Get a cam gear, and an A6/Z6 belt.  Center your distributor.  Lock your timing at 16 degrees, adjust the cam gear *instead* of the distributor to set your ignition timing.  This sets mechanical and ignition timing all in one.

Also, I found some old myspace account of yours that links to some beaten down trick with a big nose and overly plucked eyebrows who is either your sister or your girlfriend.  Regardless, you should post some nudes of her in exchange for the excellent assistance you have derived from this forum.

If you've "been here for years" even though the site is 1.5 years old then you'd know exactly what sort of response a n00b post garners.  Fuck you if you can't handle, or don't think you deserve, exactly what you knew was coming.  Based on having been here for years.

I'm also rebuilding a a6 with z6 block.  I've found through the web the d15 deck height is 207mm and the d16 is 212mm, Is this incorrect?  From this I could understand a d15 block throwing the cam timing off but not another d16.

So its a good rule to always match the cam gear with the block?

I have also found through personal measurement the z6 tensioner is saller than the a6, so I could see the a6 belt being too big.

88-95 cam gears are all the same.

You'd need to mill .185" to be 1/2 tooth off.

Yes, my block deck height measurements are correct. Slap head on, set cam gear timing to seven 'oclock, tension timing belt, done. The is no major difference between the D16 blocks that will effect cam timing.

so the 1.5 belt sounds right for this combo cuz of the small tensh pully

put the belt on with the gears in time, spin motor a few times and see if the shit is still in time.  that will let you know

Just got my z6 block/a6 head running yesterday.

The b7 timing belt does fit better than the z6.
The cam was off 1/2 tooth

It runs OK, I guess I'll buy a cam gear.

Different distances between bottom of the head and cam centers?
