1965(64 1/2) Mustang carb setup?
« on: August 06, 2010, 02:02:06 PM »

my dad just got this a week ago for free. its been sitting in a barn for the last 20years probably.
my dad wants to use the original 260 windsor thats in it, but i cant seem to find shit about these, as far as custom made setups or if they are weak as hell and would blow up.
His buddy is trying to talk him into all the B.S. heads, cams, pistons.
i want to turbo the bitch if its possible. now im not looking for 1000hp here just like 400-450 depending on how much it will cost. anything is better than the 160 it came with(new).
i was thinking a remote setup , not at the back tho, maybe middle of the car if i can find the space.
ive been on turbomustangs , but noone has this engine in there car??? that may be a bad sign.
it has vac advance too. i think that can be replaced.
any input or ideas? thoughts?

thanks.

ill post pics soon, although not impressive to look at

The early "1964½" Ford Mustang also offered the 260, although it was dropped by mid-year

There wont be room in the middle of the car.
Also swap that 260 out for a 289 or 302.
???
profit!

That motor would probably be worth a bit to some of the resto shops.

They arn't that easy to find.

That car if it is a numbers matching 260, is worth some coin as is. I would not fuck with it.

I think all cop cars need to have turbo. nbspnbsp Then they would understand the necessity of putting your foot down and how uncontrollable the urge is to fucking rail on that shit.

Worth some coin, but still worthless. The early models were tin cans, are almost always rusted through, and need 50% of the original metal replaced, and the rest banged out or patched.

From a performance standpoint, they're even worse. You need more shit braced than a skyscraper in San Francisco.

For the price it's obviously a great deal. But to go fast (and not literally twist it to hell), you're better off selling it to some old guy having a mid-life crysis and getting a better base. If nothing else, trade it for a hardtop.

it was free as stated in the first post.

well i guess fuck the turbo setup, and we'll just go for stock then.

and the metal is mostly good on it, besides the rear fender edges have alot of bondo, and we need a floor pan on the driver side

I'd get someone to run the vin and verify the motor.

If it's all numbers matching, I'd throw that bitch on Ebay, pickup with cash or cashiers check only and run to the bank. A numbers matching 64 1/2 'vert with a 260 is worth some money to the right person.

Pick up a newer model and play with it.
