cheap but awesome vitara d15b2 build (300+whp)
« on: August 11, 2012, 02:58:46 AM »

so a lot of you dont make it over to d-series.org so i figured id post this shit up here so you all could check it out

plan is a non-vtec d15b2 setup with a pm3 head.  and a colt cam i got for free in a motor i got for free.  turned out to be overbored to 76mm so i couldnt use it (lol what are the odds)

ebay turbo.  home made mild steel manifold.  mig welded.  mild steel charge piping.  dsm BOV. hopefully some hiprofile injectors.  all the shit that makes shit awesome.  ebay tial knockoff WG.  etc etc.

got some forged rods from FJT for testing, and some vitara pistons from a homie on honda-tech of all places.  NovisSomethingOrother.  tricky name, but nice guy.

rods in

bosch fuel pump in tank like a muhh

DIY port job

reworked CC

.095 milled off the head.  should give me about 9:1 CR with vitaras on the D15 setup with pm3 head.

collector jig for manifold collectors.  took 15 minutes to make.

my friend darin and i (farmyard crew what haha) got busy and started tacking shit up.  i wanted to use a full rad, fuck overheating in traffic.  that was my biggest problem with my old holset 10 sec setup.

so i made a mini ram

gangster oil drain flange/fitting i made so the oil drain would work.  basically slit the fuck outa some 5/8ths .065 wall ERW and pinched it in a vice then laced it with weld to seal it up.  worked like a champ.

and a fully assembled shot, with the RT4WD oil cooler installed as well

gonna use the ebay turbo and see how it goes.  waiting on the head back from the machine shop, needs some new exhaust valves so ill get them to the shop and ill get the head back and toss it all together

then its waiting on hiprofile to send me some injectors so i can start tuning and helping him make some loot.  haha

thats awesome. you will get lots of life out of that ebay turbo if you stay 10psi or less. since you want 300whp i know you arent. you will get 3-4 months out of that turbo if you drive it daily

Do you plan to clay the motor to see where the limits are?

nah.  if i decide to play with the cam timing ill just advance/retard till it hits something, and then ill pull back a few degrees.  hah :D

well maybe ill clay depends how i feel when its going together and if i have clay around i guess more so than anything.

A+ for the balance.... an old tire balancer does wonders.  Most peeps do it diy and wonder why it vibrates =)

Good to see your pushing the limits once again =)

i had the machine shop surface off as much as they could so its around 13lbs or so.  it could be lighter but i am happy.

i balanced it then i put a stock flywheel in the balancing rig after mine was done, and the stock one was so fucked.  it had an even worse heavy spot than the light one did before i balanced it.  lol

flywheels holding up well so far.

got like 2000km on the build, ripping it on 6psi right now.  gonna toss the 3 bar on sooner or later then turn it up a bit.

heres a me-he-co ripper

Turbo D15B2 pull

also modified the clutch cable to delete the bullshit rubber bushing on the end of it.  im sure it made things a nightmare since the clutch is so stiff.  also extended the top of the clutch pedal for a bit more throw on the cable.  clutch is MUCH better now and the TOB doesnt have to be riding on the clutch 100% of the time as it did before.

future muffler.

PS, the diy balanced flywheel still working to this day!  lol

Heres some pics of the car and shit so this thread at least makes a little sense.

Paint cut polish.  DIY of course.  3m rubbing compound and medium foam pad on PC7424

The setup

First problem.  Blown HG.  I had it tuned SUPER agressive, trying to hit 11's on 12psi on a 1.5L non-vtec... then I left that tune on, it was running WICKED, but got super cold one dry night, pavement was warm still, air super cool and dry, racing a porsche up a 14% hill, and well... you know.

What the pistons carbon looks like.  I dont like it.

I know you egg nogs will like this.

Nylon reinforced muffler support buffers.  :)

Race mount.  LOL

Threaded a cut up boost coupler through a hole i drilled through the rubber

And a sweet air block off plate I made for MPG.
