Transmission peoples... need some gearing knowledgabilities
« on: April 30, 2009, 10:26:27 PM »

Okay...my itr trans is boring (4.40 FD)... would I be crazy to just swap in a 4.928 final drive in there and calling it a day?

is it really that crazy to run at roughly 5600rpm at ~90mph?  Sounds pretty flippin' nuts even for me.

Another option is tossing in a LS 5th in there to compensate a little, but it's just not that gangster.  But then again it should yield a hair higher in rpm at the same speed with the itr 5th w/the 4.40.

Also... the 4th gear makes me weary... should I swap it out?  100mph at 8400rpm doesn't shound too pleasing to me.  Also, entertaining the idea of a longer first gear.

I have no idea wtf is good with this tranny bullshit... I are not understood transmissions.

If any of you have suggestions as far as what gears to use with a 4.928 final drive for peak performance, I am all ears.  But mind you this is a daily driver, I'm just stupid.

98+ itr spec had 4.7xx you could prolly get that cheeper than the 4.9 then your accel will be good and have lower rpm but not buy much

lol, i actually have the same question. i was thinking of not going to crazy and just getting the 4.785 + LS 5th...

also love how you use 90mph, not 60 like everyone else... i always use 80mph when im talking engine/tranny speeds, cuz i dont do 60  :P

Just put a LS 5th into a CTR box, owner is very happy.

Don't forget about GearX FD's, I think I can get them for about $450.......

yeah I know... I just don't want the run of the mill itr tranny no more.  I want something a little beefier than the 4.7 version.  And I really don't wanna touch the motor, I wanna leave it realatively stock.  So I figured I'd play with the tranny.

lol!  60mph has no significance to me... I cruise at 80-90 on the freeway, hahaha.  I'm a realist not a fantasizer... lol!

I was contemplating the 4.7 for a brief moment, but I want something a little more aggressive, lol!

isn't the CTR just a 4.4 FD?  the 4.4 isn't cutting it for me.  It just makes it a B16 with LSD.

Oh and I'm going with MFactory LSD and FD... pro series FTW!  8)

The b16a gearing is already pretty ideal unless your running a tall tire at the track. Get more powa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Coming from a 4.40, there is literally no difference between 4.7 and 4.9 FD.  Wes calced it out, I think it was 1-1.5 mph difference per gear.  Also, NA only you actually lose power with a turbo car unless you're trying to make up the difference with a taller tire in which case you need to worry about replacing more than a FD.

Do whatever is cheapest either 4.7 or 4.9, run an LS 5th.  Should net a ~10% bump in power to the wheels in 1-4th.
