Updates to come soon, I've had a few things happen lately. Good things, but they keep me from the bike a bit. I'll update in a little while with what I've done lately :)

So here's what's up:

As I've mentioned before I have been out of work for the past 10 months. Not cool. Anyway, we just moved back over to the coast for cheap renting. Somehow my brother-in-law knew of a guy who owns a shop that needed some help and I showed up at just the right time. So as hilarious as it seems to me, I'm a fabricator for a living right now!

I'm working for a fledgling shop that builds off-road style bumpers for trucks and jeeps. It's been really cool so far, hopefully I'll be able to branch out a little and get to work on some new stuff. Designing the bumpers has been the fun part.

Here's a few pictures of my work:

Duramax bumper:

2006 Dodge bumper, this one was pretty cool. The bumper is mild steel and the bars are stainless. We powdercoated the bottom and left the bars bare to be polished later:

powdercoated:

Here's a stainless jeep bumper I just finished up:

Another stainless bumper I'm working on:

and a YJ Mild steel bumper:

We powdercoated a couple bumpers bright colors so they'll stand out at a fair:

Yikes!

Anyway, that's what's been keeping me from working on the bike. I did get a few little things started though. I was able to get started on the collector for the turbo manifold:

Also I got the injector bungs in the mail, drilled the runners for them and welded one side in place. Not so happy about my aluminum welding right now, I need more practice:

So that's it, thanks for looking guys....

A few new pictures from tonight. Got the other injector bung welded into place, still not great welding, wish I has a chance to do some scrap welding on aluminum to get my skills up to par. Anyway just a few shots of the bike together with the turbo mocked into its final position:

Everything is a pretty tight fit!

Check out my sweet exhaust :)

I just think this picture is cool, when was the last time you saw injectors on an XS650?

Thanks

Thanks for the kind words guys!

Here's a couple quick pics of the turbo manifold I'm making:

I determined awhile ago that I would be able to check the oil on this bike, so you'll notice the pipe snakes nicely around the oil dipstick tube :)

Masking tape is an excellent tool for mocking up tubing

That's about where I'm at now, that side that still has masking tape in the picture has been tacked into place. Due to how the head ports are placed on these engines it's impossible to build the manifold as one peice, so likely one or both sides will have a flanged section that comes apart for installation or removal.

Thanks again for looking in....

looks great so far.

have you thought about a slip fit section for the manifold?

i know pictures fail at showing depth and can hind things, but how close do those injectors sit to the turbo?

I thought about using a slip fit, but I don't have any experience with using one and wasn't sure how good they were. Anyone with any use want to chime in?

The pictures are pretty accurate, there's just enough room behind the compressor housing for the fuel rail I'm making. It's all a very tight fit.

biggest thing is having is be a tight fit, and just weld on some tabs and use a bolt or a beehive spring to hold tension on it.

they have all the supplies on burns stainless's website.

That bike has a kickstarter awesome.

I'm still not sure if I'm going to run the kickstarter on this one. Mainly it'll be electric start, but I might leave it on just as a backup. My chopper only uses the kickstart, speaking of that....

I thought it would be cool to put up some pictures of both my bikes since they're both based off of the same platform:

The chopper when I got it:

The sportbike when I got it:

you'd never guess the sportbike is two years older :)

just so long as it has a decompression levar it'd be fine. ten easy kicks with the lever pulled bring it to the compression stroke one hard kick and they fire right up.

Good job on the chopper I like how you hid the rear shock. But choppers are not my thing it's a state of mind I just don't comprehend.

Updates?

Sorry guys, my welder being at work is conspiring to keep me from working on the bike at home. However I have been trying to build the fuel rail for it. I had the rail made, the injector bosses were ready to weld in place. and basically I screwed the welding royally and I threw it away.

So I'm going to rebuild one out of steel instead of aluminum. But that's where I'm at right now.

I have a few parts coming in the mail though. The cush drive for the rear wheel will be here soon, along with my new sprocket so I can adapt it to the cush drive. As soon as that's in place I can cut the hole for the chain on the left side of the swingarm and get everything lined up properly.

Also, I have my top triple clamp coming so I'll finish up mounting the front end properly, and I have my seat coming, so then I'll get started on my subframe and new tail.

good stuff man. the quality of your work is great, but im not excited about the turbo placement. seems very over complicated. its your bike and you do what you want, but is there a reason you didnt put it in front of the engine or did you just want it in the back?

Bump, no updates for a month.

I know, here's an update for ya:

So, been awhile since I've actually had any updates on this thing. Combination of factors; welder is at work, working on other things, kinda burned out on it for awhile, that sort of thing :)

Anyway, just a quick post to let you know what's new.

Got a few parts in, got my Kawi upper triple:

Here's my new intercooler. It's a perfect size! It originally came as a side mount intercooler on an Audi S4:

This probably isn't the final mounting position, but I'm trying out a bunch of different spots. It will be mounted to the downtubes in some fashion though.

Here's a couple of distance shots showing how the bike looks currently. Also you can see my 2005 ZX6R seat:

Got my cush drive in:

This is what sucks, because of the gearing in these bikes I need to use a 30 tooth sprocket, that's pretty small. So there's going to be lots of milling on this cush drive to make it compatible with the new sprocket. I'll also have to cut an adapter plate:

My brother owns a 2004 ZX6R and he recently got hit by a car. He's ok, but they totalled the bike out. He bought it back and is parting it out. He's going to give me the complete braking system and rearsets! Whoohoo, stuff like this never happens!

Also, here's what's been keeping the majority of my attention:

I've been trying to teach my wife to ride, but she gets really intimidated by bikes. So I tried to find the least intimidating bike EVER :)

I've spent the last month refurbishing it, it's almost ready to go, just a little bit more work.

It's going to be a surprise for her, don't ruin it! :)

Anyway, hope to start back up on this soon and get some work done.

thanks for looking

I'd settle for a ride in your old Neon.

I'd settle for a ride in your old Neon.

Sometimes I wonder what happened with that car. The supercharger system itself is in a Neon somewhere in Pennsylvania, the car I sold for $400 to a recylcling yard, it was in pretty sad shape by the end.

Sorry everyone for lack of updates on this thing. I've got good news and bad news, the bad news is my job fizzled out due to lack of work, the good news is now I have my welder back at home again so I can actually get some work done on this. I've got a few new parts as well, I'll get some pictures up of that soon.

Until then, here's a weak vid:
