banned pits?
« on: May 25, 2009, 12:22:02 PM »

I know a ton of places are doing it, my city just did it and fort hood just did it too. Has your city banned pit bulls yet? And what do you do with yours if it has happened to you?

It sucks that they have to ban them in the whole city because SOME people are ignorant idiots who ruin it for others.

Most cities will grandfather them in.

If my city banned them (which won't happen after the Tack vs Alabama case), I'd move.

Denver has killed a few thousand.  I live in a place full of ignorant nogs that think they're all killers and that's why they get them.

The word pit bull lost meaning about 30 years ago. Its the only breed of dog that has dogs range from 30 pounds to 120.

The law means any block headed dog. 99 percent of pitbulls are mutts.

http://www.colbypitbull.com/

Thats what the breed is suppose to be. The larger pitbulls you see have been mixed for generations with other larger bull breed dogs to create larger dogs.

You dont breed 40 pound dogs together and create 120 pound dogs.

Also bull breed dogs are dog aggressive as hell, they were breed for hundreds of years to fight. The dogs are great dogs I had 2 growing up and have 2 mixed bull breed dogs now but they are a handful.

Dog and human aggression are two entirely different things.

The standards for a pit bulls weight is 40-65lbs, but yeah pretty much anything with a blocky head will be called a pit bull.  Media also likes to exaggerate on the weight.

Colby pits are as real as you can get.  Both the AKC American Staffordshire Terrier and UKC American Pit Bull Terrier were based off the same Colby dog.  I've actually been speaking with Louis Colby and will get one once I get out of the apartment and to a house with a yard.

Yeah i have a 140 pound rott so when they start banning all aggressive dogs ill start to care. At my dads house, the neighbor next door breeds there pits every chance they get, and the neighbor across the street has them on huge chains and beats on them. Its pretty sad. They bite people all the time. He has had 3 get put down for biting people already.

Bull breed style dogs are and will be dog agressive unless trained from day one till the day they die not to be. Some maybe regardless.

The human aggression is due to most people owning these style dogs being dirt bags.

Denver has banned them, and that sucks. I live just north of Denver and they're cool here, just because the old police chief used to own a couple. I've got 2 myself, 1 asbt 55# and 1 rednose 95#

It's the owners that make the breed what they are, not the dog. When my grand-daughter comes over to spend the night the small one sleeps on the bed with her and the big one sleeps at the foot of her bed, very protective of her

Yep, basically it.  Dog aggression isn't a trait every pit bull will have (mine doesn't, for example), but it's something every owner should expect.

I agree that the biggest problem is the shitbags owning them.  You don't hear ghetto nig-nogs say "I want a poodle."  No sir, "I be wantin one-a dem mean ass pits."  I took my dog out the other day to piss, a couple kids were out there, someone else was walking their dog, and the kid was yelling to the person "that dog is better than yours," "that pit will tear your dog to pieces."  I went up to the person to show them otherwise, but it's really annoying when people keep spawning generations that believe this shit.

www.denverkillsdogs.com <- thought that was cool.  Put up ads in the city about it.  Remember reading about the military woman who came back from deployment and was held at gunpoint while they took her dog, because she wasn't aware they were banned.  Great way to thank a soldier.

Its also funny how the colby breed will not be considered a pitbull style dog by most people.

Yeah, gangstas think they're all 100lbs, 6" off the ground, 2 feet wide, and have oversized heads instead of the lean, athletic breed they're supposed to be.

One of my favorite pits, and an example of a REAL pit bull and not the malformed shit the nogs like:

PIT BULL FIGHT

PIT BULL FIGHT II

Pit Bull Perla Nitro Leito

Notice Perla is 44lbs and agile.

My city has also banned snakes this year too. No new snakes allowed. And thats on top of having to register all snakes over 6 foot last year. That cost 120 bucks for my burm. this place is going crazy with banning animals.

Oh those mutt things that are being said to be a mix of amstaff/pitbulls but are 120 pounds of lard. If people want a short thick dog get an english buldog.

American bully dogs from what I can tell is just a hybrid dog mixed with larger bull breed dogs like american/english bulldogs and maybe even bullmastiff to create a larger headed dog.

Again that term pitbull is so generic since most people breeding these style dogs are not your typical breeders so each generation the dogs get mixed with whatever dog is around that has a big head.

How people think you can take 40-60 pound dogs and get 120 pound dogs that look nothing like their offspring is beyond me.

Yep, AmBullys.  Mix of your usual "pit bull" (AmStaff or APBT) with a larger bully breed.

It's retarded.  Bigger is better, right?  Who cares if they can barely move.

Man i would love to have an english bulldog. My friend used to have one and that was the toughest damn dog. You could punch him square in the head and he would look at you like it was play time.

Spanky and petey from the little rascals

If your city wants to go ahead and act like a bunch of nazi's and ban whatever they dont like, ask them why they hate america. The pitbull used to be americas favorite dog.

Unfortunately most dog breeds go through being trendy.

I remember when dobies were being outlawed and they were the "ganster" dog. I have also seen it done to shepherds, and the MASS over breeding of dalmatians, from that stupid movie.

"Pit bulls" As has been stated where bread as a lean fighting dog, they were also bread to have NO AGGRESSION towards humans. To the point that dogs were culled if they showed that tendency.

It is unfortunate, that dogs get bad reps, from poor breeding and even worse handling. I have never met a bad dog, but 50% of the people I meet, that have a dog, shouldn't be allowed to own a dog.

Netherlands also lifted their ban.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2008/06/09/international/i100455D22.DTL

Headlines say 25-year ban but they said it started in 1993, so I think is just bad math.

The Dutch government says it will lift a long-standing ban on pit bulls because it did not lead to any decrease in bite incidents.

I went to look at a motorcycle from a post I found on craigslist, I went to the door and knocked, I hear a barking and this fucking pitbull came running around the corner, through the screen door and latched on to my fucking arm! I was punching it in the face but it didnt let go until the owner came and grabbed its neck and pryed it off as there was blood spewing out of my arm. Yeah they are not dangerous at all. If I were a child I could have been killed. I didnt press charges or anything, he showed me papers saying it had its rabie shots and whatever, I have dogs and know how attached you get to them.

I wonder if you could bypass that by having it as a seeing eye dog, or the like.

Disagree.  Poor owner, creates bad dog.  It now knows to attack people, and should have been reported and put down.

I had a roomate with a black lab/mutt mix that she'd adopted.  It had been pretty badly abused, covered with cigarette burns, didn't like men, etc, and she nursed it back to health.  It got used to me pretty quick despite me being a guy, and things were chill for a minute.  I guess the dog was ~7 years old and a little stiff like it was older (hard life), it started getting confused and in the period of about a month it was a 1 in 3 chance the dog greeted me at the door normally (happy to see me), greeted me cringing and crying like I was beating it, or greeted my like it wanted to fight.  If Dana wasn't there to calm him I had to climb in my bedroom window to get in.  Long story short, it ended up taking off out the front door one day, ran into the neighbor's yard and drug their four year old around their yard by her face.  The kid was okay, had some puncture wounds but didn't need stitches.  The dog was put down, of course.

$100 says the dog never would have done that if the original owner hadn't been a sack of shit.
