welders and fitters generally make the same rate.

but just a welder or just a fitter is easy to come by,  thats only half the package.

i fit and weld out all my own pipe.  i am two men wrapped in one.

i write my own ticket.    a fitter who cant weld is useless,  a welder who cant fit is useless.

a fitter who wleds out his work is priceless.

remember i said this and quote for truth
and a fitter that can get the next pipe beveled/fit while the welder has his hood down will increase efficiency 100%

a 1 man show is 1 man slow

yea but in alot of situations only 1 man is needed.

id venture to say i could fit a whole tun of pipe and then weld my way back to where i started faster than 2 union nignogs could and it would look better

Question for you nogs, evidently today I was told I got a raise.  The bossman (not the money man) didn't even know how much it went up.  I will find out tomorrow.  I was due for the raise.  I planned on asking for a raise.  How does one handle the situation if the raise is not what one would anticipate getting?  I started out as an "intern" and got paid like one.  About 4 months after starting, I got a 16% raise which is generous by percentage standards, but by actual dollars, it wasn't enough to make me happy.  I continued working for that rate because of the weak economy I felt it was in my best interest to keep working rather than quit and then not find a job.  Now I'm getting another raise and since my first raise wasn't enough, I doubt the second one will put me in the appropriate pay scale since my base pay was low.  How does one approach of the subject of "hey, thanks for the raise, but it's not enough"?

Wait until you see what the raise is actually for, and if it isn't acceptable then be straight up. Are you trying not to hurt anybody's feelings or what? If you need more money tell them, if they won't give it to you then find another job.

As far as bringing it up, talk with your direct supervisor if you get along at all, otherwise bring it straight to HR or your boss' boss, or whoever has authority like that. It really depends on the environment you are in. Don't work for less than you are worth though if you aren't just banking some experience.

WTF, how many years does it take to become journey status? I know in Canada it's only 4.
