SBC TURBO TRUCK LIVES
« on: August 25, 2009, 02:00:16 AM »

;D Wow its been awhile but its has a new life between the fenders.   Its a Highly modified vortec 305 with a alumin high rise open plenum manifold and pretty good size roller hyd cam. Tried the t56 monster turbo but it couldnt spool it at idle to 2k  and the carb was choking. So out came the tried and true t4 and now it idles  due to it has air.Have a few more minor things to hook up  but tonights test drive was fun. Laid a small 2 solid stripes for about 150ft and that was only on 3 psi boost.
Built the engine to ingest 20 psi of boost and i feel it sounds better than the 350 previously that was in it. Got pics i need to upload and need to get some video footage rolling.

I miss the boosted SBC  Just letting everyone know im still alive and the v8 turbo setup is still alive.   520 cubbes of caddy twin turbo is gonna be scarry

Drove it tonight with some boost and 10 psi feels good. Spiked it to 15 and the tires ripped loose in second doing 45 on accel. I think 20 psi is make it a fun truck to drive. May even go 25 psi

I am running the holley electric blue pump with a mallory vacum  return regulator running into a 12.1 fmu.
I have a duel isolator so i can monitor fuel pressure from the drivers seat. I also need to get the wideband installed so i can see how much tuning i need to do with the boost above the 15 psi threshold. ;D I got my secret weapon for fuel control  that way i can still run the mild carb setup. :o I will have some road time videos this weekend after i get tabs. Might even throw on my m/t wrinkle walls and see if they got any bite left in them.

:o got some freeway time on the motor. The blow off is extremely loud and it boost 10 psi quickly.  15psi and the gates opening up. Need to get the wide ban on it to see the fuel. I know its a lil rich on the part throttle it blubbers a bit but rolls on through it with ease. The carb was setup for the 350 that was in it running 6psi till i melted pistons. The creator hasnt had his ass dyno in it so gonna show him this week and we will see what it does.

While it scares me that you don't have a wideband on it and you're boosting on the motor, if she's so rich she runs rough part throttle you are probably jetted super rich and she's safe to raw dog on IF your ignition timing isn't way off.  Pull some plugs, and look at the piston surface.  The pistons should have a nice coat of soot/carbon on them if it's that rich, if you have tiny pinholes in that carbon/soot pattern that you can see shiny piston through then you have an issue with timing.  If there's no carbon trail or soot (the piston doesn't have to be completely covered by carbon, I am just ASSuming yours will be from your description) and you see the shiny bits on the piston then you probably have a timing and fuel problem.  Timing super retarded can make a rich mixture seem super lean, as far as reading the piston goes, and lead to those detonation marks.

OK, can I get a fucking vid of the truck now?   O0

Its ok i understand what your saying. I have had the sbc boost in there for awhile but it was a 350  11.1 an i had it dialed in on fuel map all the way through full booost. I did post a vid of it  but no road videos due to  i need a passenger to take as i rip it like when Dave went with me and we trolled everett for some fun. I do have a btm and i pull 2 degrees per pound of boost out now and i have a fmu plummed inline so i feel safe on the fuel. Plus im not really ripping on it just getting some mild street time on it to see how it drives. ;D
Gonna mount a camera just to video as i drive to get the effect of what it sounds like when you ripp it. Love the sound of a sbc singing the 6500  notes.
