k24 Austin Mini
« on: March 11, 2009, 04:49:18 AM »

Ill be moving pics and material over slowly, bear with me.

Because Highroller wanted to see the build and so did others on here i figured i throw it up. I know the FAKLAD sentiment on here, but its still a cool build nonetheless.

enjoy.

P.S: everything is a copy over from my build thread on another forum.

So ive got a bit of a cool long term going on that some ppl know about. i thought id share the pics.

Shell: 78 Austin Mini
Powertrain: 2004 Acura TSX 6spd. K24A2
Induction: TWM 42mm Individial Throttle Bodies with CF velocity stacks/K20a ITR cams, with adjustable ex. cam sprocket
Suspension: Full adjustable coilovers front and rear
Brakes: 4 pistons "big brake kit" up front/rear disc converion in rear
Frame: tubluar front subframe designed for K-series mini converion/ Customs cage with attachment points to subframe.
electronics: Powered my Hondata K-pro, display controlled by Rackpac digital cluster. More pics to come when i get the car back from Lejeune once the cage is in.

enjoy.

updates: The motor is back in, squared up and not getting moved again. ITB's are installed, injectors in and wired, engine harness modified and the general routing is figured out. Body harness up to the firewall is complete. Dash and Dash harness is complete. Axles are in, Shift Box and linkage cables are in, Hydraulic clutch line is assembled, front brake lines are made up and run up to the wilwood pedals. Fuel pump is mounted and wired up.

Still have a bunch of little stuff to finish, but we should have it running in a couple weeks.

front body harness which needs to be completed

dash wiring complete with fuse box, dash and Hondata Kpro mounted.

Tight clearances between header and firewall.

no clearance between vtec solenoid and firewall. Will need to remove vtec solenoid shield to gain the clearance needed.

more pics to come.

more updates: fuel system is complete, just gotta grab 2 fittings in the morning and button her up. Rad is in. It looks to be a modified EG unit by the looks of things.

As you can see the 1pc front end is also on now. Still need to play around with it quite a bit to get the alignment right.

Shift bucket and shift cables are secure. We opted to use a shift box from a 90-93 accord and modify the cable mount plate that bolts to the trans to give us the proper throw needed to slam gears. We went this route bc of the all steel construction of the older H/F shift boxes that can take all the abuse we throw at it. We did the same in K20 EG race car and it hasnt let us down yet.

On to the pics. Note, ill should have it running within the next week. ill post a vid once i get to that stage. :D

inital test fit of the the flip front.

testing.....

still testing.....

old mock up shot of the shifter box before the cables were installed onto the trans

Front End on, hinges roughly in the right spot, still needs major alignment

rad in place, fuel lines run, wires everywhere!

Modified K20 cable mount bracket.

90-93 accord Shift box assembly

Return line for the fuel system. Not entirely happy with it. No real spot to secure it either. Might pull the tank before i put fuel in it and get some tabs welded up on it so i can secure the lines a bit better.

as promised, here are some more pics

exhaust pics wish i had some of them in the car, but the fabricator took some before dropping it back on the ground. waiting for him to email me. it hugs the floor nice and tight.

Shot of the quality of the welds

remounted shift box. Much nicer and cleaner look. way more service friendly.

rear axle out and the old shock mounts cut off and ground clean ready to weld up the new tabs for the coilovers.

the old birdshit welded radius arms.

the old shock mounts that were welded to the axle

shot of the driver side corner where the radius arm use to hook into.
the welds that you can see in the pic are the only thing holding those tabs on. There are no welds on the back side of those tabs. one good hit with a min sledge and they busted right off.

same as above but on the pass side.

basically all of that is gonna get cut out and new steel going in. Tubes are gonna come out from the rear x-brace, through the rear firewall and down to where the old radius arm tabs are located. there will be a bar going across the car that will get tucked into the sheet metal that will essentially box in the back and have bars going in to triangulate the rear box to tighten everything up. The new radius arm tabs will tag off the rear tubes instead of the flimsy tabs.

more pics to come.

small update:

i went and checked the car out at the fabricators. back half of the suspension assembly/tube frame is pretty much complete. axle and radius rods are pretty much are in there final locations. Just gotta make up the mounting tabs for the gas tank and rear shocks and we will be good to go.

small hiccup though. Owner found this and wants me to install it:

:S

now i may be on the search for a K series awd 5 or 6spd transmission. fun fuckin times...

update: i think i got him to leave this until next year.....i hope he doesnt change his mind.
