MR2 to ROTORY adapter
« on: September 03, 2009, 10:04:06 AM »

i don't ask questions, i just do what the customer wants.  this is a new renesis rx8 rotory going into a mk1 mr2 with a 3sgte tranny.  biggest issue for him to figure out will be the axle so it doesn't interfere with the exhaust.

flywheel adapter:

clutch mounted:

adapter bolts to tranny first:

all assembled:

Should have convinced him to go with a 13b...  Shame on you!

RX-8 motors are 13b's but with side ports and 3-stage intakes. Since they are side ported the apex seals will last longer and no contamination of the intake charge with exhaust and having some unburned fuel going straight out the exhaust.

BTW That is why Mazda calls them 13B REW. Which is weird because they are now classified as 2.6l and not 1.3l b/c they count both rotor displacements instead of a single rotor chamber.

Nice work as always Aaron.

I always assume MR2 owners have no clue what they are doing, so just nod and go on.

for the SW20 guys, you're 100% right.

the AW11 guys are a bit more inventive. i wouldn't put it past whoever is doing this to get it done and screaming.

there's a guy swapping a mazdaspeed3 engine into an AW11 and he's made quite a bit of progress..

should haul decent ass. makes me wonder if one would fit in a spyder :D

Not trying to jack Aaron's thread, but I recall a guy a while back dropping a 4g63 into an AW11. Now that sounds...dangerous actually.  :?:

i do remember seeing pics of the 4G63 powered car. there was also bill's n* that was never roadworthy.

there are a couple of SW20 guys with some nuts though.. one guy put an audi V8 in longitudinally. another is doing a n* swap transversely.

anyway, i wonder if we'll ever see pics of this swap farther along than just bolted together.

i wish a D2B flywheel adapter was that easy. i have one almost in the works. probably going to need a custom flywheel rather than just an adapter

Did you do the flywheel adaptor first and then find the bolt hole location after the input shaft centralised it? Im about to do one with a mate for 2JZ up to R32 GTR AWD. great work once again.

Don't the RB26's have the front diff mounted right onto the pan with a axle running right through it? Are you going to swap all that stuff over onto the JZ's pan or are you going to ditch the AWD stuff and just run it RWD?
