one that needs no conversions.  Say a virgin p28.

How long does it take you and what tool do you use?

5 mins tops

I use a desoldering gun. (soldering iron with vac pump)
wire snips (cut the leads on the stock rom
Heat Gun (heat the remaining leads)
Small needle nose pliers or tweezers (pull out the leads when solder is molten)
Solder wick (used to clean up the holes)
Solder (flux cored)

takes about 10 mins to solder a new socket in, clean it up with propanol, and spray PCB sealant.

it shouldnt take long with the right tools.
Just cut the leads off the old chip, its easier that way and you dont risk pulliing the copper wires out of the board if you pull it out to hard.

I never investsed in anything but braid so it takes time but I rarely do ecu's maybe a couple every so often for a couple shops I work with.

I would say with braid 15-20 minutes to desolder waiting for the iron to heat back up and cutting the braid as you go along

Obdo stuff is fun. I just cut out the stock chip so you dont have to worry about prying up on the stock eprom and pulling traces. This applies to p13's and the odd every so often eprom already installed usdm oem obd1 honda ecu's.

After how much I have spent on braid over the years I could of bought some nice equipment which I think anyone who plans on doing this more than a couple times should. Time is money.

I have only done a couple total, but that is what I use as well. I was ~10min out, 15min in.

im hoping this just takes the agony away from chipping an ecu.  It is a pain in the ass, but if you can find a gold mine for ecu's you can make some good money doing it.  The only thing i refuse to do is send a basemap with it unless im doing the tuning.  Giving the customer a basemap gives them more reason to postpone getting tuning.  I dont know how often i see people with chipped ecu's and they think they have a tuned engine.

boost basemaps=trouble

Somebody who has a simple all motor build basemap action your not going to get yourself in trouble

I have been saying for years i was going to buy a desoldering station still havent done it and probably never will. I guess I have just got use to using braid.

People are fucking idiots. They think a basemap means a tuned ecu, so they go out and beat on their fucking cars. Then when something bad happens, they come back and bitch at the tuner. It's fucking ridiculous. I'm getting really tired of that shit.

If they fabricate a valid reason why they need a basemap, then it's okay to let them have one with a 1.5 psi boost cut.

I still don't do it because I'm not interested in hearing complaints about how the car idles, when the TB set screw is missing or whatever is retarded about the car.

Too long with the manual bulb desoldering iron.  I would love a desoldering station, but I haven't chipped an ECU for several months.

I stopped doing ecu's/basemaps about 3 years ago due to a scholar after 6 months on a basemap broke a ringland and had his dad call me to bitch about his car blowing up.

Or you get my shit runs rich

Send me a socketed ecu and let them figure out the rest.

Ive pretty much stopped tuning cars If I get the right type of person I'll tune for them but ive got nothing but a long streak of white trash broke ass retards calling me wanting tuned and bitching about what I charge $250 then asking if they can get a deal or for a basemap for $50.
Like I want to jump up for nothing and install my gear and drive around some piece of shit with exhuast leaks countless other dumb dumbs that make what should have been about 4hrs into all fucking day.

word.   Its not worth the annoying phone calls.  I did it once, told the guy not to call me when the car doesnt run smooth because its going to need tuning.  What do you know, one week later he calls me asking why the car runs funky.  ugh.  that was it.

What really fucking irritates me is people who charge money to make a basemap for a customer when its likely just some bullshit they pulled of the xenocron bins or something that came from a previous tune.
