Numerous importers from California were raided buy the epa in the last 2 weeks. Containers were recylced for scrap metal containing 6 figures worth of parts

From what we are gathering from the laws stated regarding the Epa's right to do this is clear cut. japanesse engines have been and always be illegal. Im only hearing a little hear and there but basically these guys who have been in business for 15+ years are clearing out inventory and calling it quits

lawyers are working for one importer I deal with to see if in any form these engines can be brought legally by breaking them apart so they are not a complete engine but just used parts.

Best part is of course california has smog but how much of this nation doesnt and never will.

They've been doing this passively for the last two years, if they randomly checked a container it was siezed and if a local port came to associate your name with imported engines then everything you brought in was inspected.

A local importer started importing whole cars to Mexico and driving them across the border.  Only to find out they can't get them titled like they used to.   I spoke with a local dude who tried to get a RHD JZA80 from them but the kit car application he filed was denied (duh).

Who cares?  I like USDM engines anyway, and I prefer to rebuild anything that's 10+ years old and mostly worn out.

That is all fine and dandy as long as you don't blow the bottom end to pieces.

Fuck the EPA.  They may very well have good intentions, but as usual with a government run entity, they are misguided.

I care since majority of people lack the skills to build an engine correctly and dont want to pay machine shops to freshen up 18 year old integra motors.

if you can pay someone to rebuild a d series block for 400 bucks with machine shop costs+parts those people work for - money after you factor in time+equipment etc

The importing of motors is needed to keep older cars on the roads plain and simple. The obd2 stuff coming over is still pretty clean. if we are talking obdo zc's then yeah rebuild.

I haven't seen an imported engine in a while, to be honest.  We rebuild everything where I'm at.

The d15b sohc vtec's coming over are all still throwing well over 160+ psi per cylinder

for 400-500 bucks for longblocks thats a hell of a deal imo.
