Verizon...as in FiOS? GOOD LUCK
My city has the 2nd largest research park in the world, and is a "tech" based city, yet we don't even have FiOS.
It may sound like it'd be profitable but fiber is not cheap. When you factor in the labor costs as well as materials, your piddly $50-70 a month isn't shit, especially after subtracting their bandwidth costs.
Fast data always starts in the most densely populated areas and slowly leaks out to the suburbs, then the rural areas.
Do you remember the "omg you can get 1mbps cable interwebs?!!?" days?
If it were profitable, they'd have it done already
Eventually it would be, but if it took 5-10 years just to recoup their costs, they'll stick with the larger cities where they can connect 10x as many people with the same amount of cable. Sucks, but that's how it is...
3G is usable and I've got decent speeds tethered to my phone, but latency sucks.
