Turbo blanket?
« on: November 02, 2009, 09:46:40 AM »

Hey guys wondering if this is worth it. Anyone have any experience. I can see the benefits but I'm not too sure if they outweigh the cost.

Just grab a stainless pot and cut it to fit.  Looks super clean, too.

Oil cooler required with one of these thangs?

Yes, but with one of these you can completely block the radiator with your IC.

waste of $$ really!! they are only good for tight engine bays with things to burn!! (ie: VR6 turbo,FD Hondas, etc)

In most Honda bays you have tons of room and the turbo is nowhere near the firewall (unless you are log manifold on a K-seriese)..

Save ya $$ and get something that you can actually use!

or you could just forgo the rad and do direct circulation.

Not need for the coolant to get warm with the tstat anymore

Better yet have the coolant hose dump directly on the blanket to really keep it cool.

You are so stale... the coolant is hot, sir.  Best to dump it on the ground and get all that heat out of the engine.

can we get a rad blanket? We need to keep that heat inside the rad so it stays warm, or else it might get

My elephant mani is basicly a top mount, and covering the turbo helps tons. My old manifold was covered with an inch of ceramic insulation, and it was about 90*F after 3 dyno pulls.

ATM i'm running no cover over the turbine, but the entire manifold and DP are covered with a 1/16" ceramic insulation (1800F), then a 2nd fiberglass wrap (1200F). Stock radiator & fan, and never goes above 202*F in the summer.

The $15 pot is probably a better idea in terms of value, but for a car on the street, a blanket would help loads.

turbo blanket is worth every dime, even at $150 each, I am on my second one in 2 years I can drive the car 2.5 hours and still can put my hands on the blanket, downside they dont stay pretty for long if the silver color will burn off if its touching the manifold. but its worth it use to burn through my hood on my old car now I have the coolest engine bay.

my old one from ebay

my new one from T1 different styles

bot cost 150 each
