Home Made Turbo Chevelle
« on: November 12, 2009, 03:47:34 PM »

My friend had been building this car for a while. I stopped by last night to look at it and knew I had to share it with rhmt. I asked his if he had any pics, he did, so I threw them on my jump drive.

He is having me tune it, It will definitely be the fastest car I have ever been in when finished. Hopefully I can get the owner to join and post more progress as he completes it. All Fab work was performed in a barn with a concrete floor.

This is the car being stripped down. It will be getting a better cage soon.

Getting a little primer love.

BooSt!!

He is starting the mock up here.

Turbo got polished

The machine work begins

This is the machinist. Looks like a little Willy Nelson mixed with a little Tommy Chong.

Some more pictures of the engine on the dyno. I believe it made 568 on motor with 8:1 compression. This thing is gonna be sick with 25+ lbs of boost

Motor is finally coming together

And the money shot

If you have any questions about the car, I'll ask him and post back

All I really know is it is a 400 block with a 350 crank, FAST management, and 1 big ass turbo!

that car is gonna be scary.

I know, I believe I told him at least 20 times last night That :

1. I will not ride in this thing on anything above 8 psi without it being on rollers
2. When we max out the dyno I am going to finish the tune by logging at the track and adjusting accordingly
3. Please dont hurt me in this thing, please.

looks good, but i would have routed the wastegate a bit differently so that it draws from both sides more evenly and re-routes back into the downpipe further down stream.

Why the 400 block, 350 crank?  377s are good for high rpm, but I would choose cubic inches any day.  None the less looks like its gonna be sick as hell.  Chevelles are still my favorite cars.

Sweet an S595 / S510. I like those turbo's Does he have the 95mm or 100mm version? We were going to go with that on our build, but we got such a good deal on a Turbonetics T106 that we couldn't pass it up.

I like the way the turbo makes the block look small  :?:

How much does a turbo like this weight? 70-80lbs?

looks good, but i would have routed the wastegate a bit differently so that it draws from both sides more evenly and re-routes back into the downpipe further down stream.

I though the same thing when I first looked at it, but the way the pipe is angled it should almost be dumping directly towards the wastegate.

Why the 400 block, 350 crank?  377s are good for high rpm, but I would choose cubic inches any day.  None the less looks like its gonna be sick as hell.  Chevelles are still my favorite cars.

He wants to rev this thing to the moon, He wants an extremely long powerband. He is also putting a 150 shot on the car to get things going

Something like that. It is massive. It is supposed to be a 106mm billet wheel in the thing.

From the pic, of the turbo, with the polished cover, it is running a standard cast wheel, which would make it either a 95mm, or 100mm inducer.

I love how it looks as big as the goddamn block.  a mans turbo should be roughly the size of the engine its boosting.

Your a mans man when you spool your shit with a fucking 150 shot to "get the party started".

Welcome to an easy tune that will make you look like a badass.  If that thing breathes like it does without the turbo it's going to fucking rip with minimal fuss.

i hope you are running either a flex in the exh to turbo bracket, or SOLID as fuck motor mounts.

I guess you didn't notice the front engine plate?

because unshrouding the valve offers more potential to cylinder head flow.

i've heard of fully built 377's reving to upwards of 7,600 rpms    na vs na i would take a 383 over a 377 but im sure the boost will make up for the loss of torque with the added airflow and rpm's ....sick ass ride       displacement<boost
