Finally Holset Powered
« on: January 06, 2010, 03:43:35 PM »

Wasnt home too long this christmas...but i decided it was time to say goodbye to the 16g

Inbetween adding on the house i found some time to work on my car

put on a holset He351CW with turbosmart 38 mm gate

everything was done by me

bought some bends from mandrel bends and made a 3 inch exhuast, no muffler / reonator at the moment.

went together well, onlhy on 7psi as i havent had time to play with it, the slim fan isnt cooling enough, its time to say goodbye to AC and put a big fan infront of the radiator.

feels good, turbo sounds awesome. spool just after 4 grand.

finally had time to do this, been working way too much on other cars.

it turned out well, thers still room for improvement, the bay needs to be tidied up times 1000

ive heard conflicting things on the turbo's flow rate, im aiming for 550 turbo, and a 75 shot on top of that.

will lock up the car to front wheel the first week i get home in summer, and then to the dyno i go

but its running and running well :)

Which 16g?  The ones out of the Evo 8 & 9 are two of the best bang for the buck street car turbos on the market.  As good or better than the GT28rs, I kid you not.

ok i lied.  Fuck imageshack.  resize them bitches in image shack if you can, i know photofuckit will let you but Blah.  i hate that place.

That last shot is sexy got any others of the full car?  Also try flickr for your pics.  Photofuckit has a horrible interface now full of ads and gayness.  Imageshack hardly ever works correctly.

Im from the Bahamas, ill try to make a video, it feels dead as shit on 7psi....but thats cause i never drive on low boost. Althought it does sling right to 8 grand with such little pressure, it must be flowing much much more than a 16g at that psi. Ill try and take a video, but the exhuast is so LOUD right now you wont hear much besides that.

Clearance will be a BIG BIG bitch, but if you know what your doing it will fit, clock it to miss the lower mount and angle it far enough to clear the block. when i get some av gas and go on 20-30 psi ill let you know how it performs...but that wont be for a while seeing as ill be back in Canada for school on sunday.

with radiator clearance is around 1/8th of inch

without is here

im going to take the condenser out and put a 16inch pusher fan on the radiator, its the only solution i can think of, any ideas guys?

yeh, i race alot. The last time its been on the clock it did a 7.7 at 93mph in the 1/8th, that was on a 16g with 264/272 cams and chiped computer very light mods....22psi and c16 gas.....alot less than it has now....

its a fun car, on 15psi i can go fully sideways from a standstill and hold it that way. ive had it about 4 years now and its had many different mods. Currently i have alot in it but it pays me back each time i drive it.

That's a high ET for that trapspeed in a "DSM".  Is it due to the early Evo weighing less, or do you have traction problems?

The early evo's are fairly light compared to your dsm's.

What times do you do down the 1/4? Are you using gsr or evo diff ratio's?

IM not sure what dsm's do, but it was on thick wall tires, launching around 7 grand tire spin in 1st, chriping 2nd and 3rd LSD front and rear, i cant find the slip but it was either 93 or 87 mph, i know 100% it was a 7.71 pass tho and my best on 15psi is 7.98.

cant find the slips at the moment.

I have stock evo 2 ratio's at the moment, not the evo 3 ratio. We dont have a 1/4 :(

I've seen a stock 1G DSM with a good clutch and better driver run 8.5's at 65 mph.  Never spun.  I figured something was different when you said you could step the car out in the lower gears because I've not experienced that out of 300-330 awhp DSMs - although I *certainly* don't try to do that given how wierd the drivelines in them are.  Rolling into it = zero wheelspin.

Yeh my gears are shoorrttt and my car doesnt weigh much, with super stiff coil overs, roll cage, and  front and rear swaybars it is very agile.... however it sucks if thers any water on the ground, since ive put this suspension in i get way too much wheel spin on the track, when i did those times i was on a shock and spring setup, but that had way too little rebound. Im going to probably change the springs in it to somthing less stiff, but i have no way of knowing what they are now, the numbers on the coil overs dont cross refrence to anything unless you speak Japanese

My last GSX ran consistant 8.5x's at 70-72 mph, minimal wheelspin.  I hated it though.

Dustin's 2g would blow thru 2nd gear, and act 2600 would slip in 3rd.  Ive been in drag cars with slicks that couldnt pull a 60' like that old piece of crap 2g.

OP, I hate you for having an evo btw.  You suck.
The general rule of thumb for launching an AWD car without slicks is to take off at 2-300 rpm higher than wherever your peak torque is. On a bone stock dsm that's about 4500. Id say its higher in an evo2 but keep it in mind.

Mini update, put a muffler on, the exhuast is too low beneth my too low car causing it to scrap when i bang gears and i mean it hits hard

its on about 16psi...and it feels like im in a space ship, much faster than my 16g and 21 psi if my butt dyno is claibrated

however i didnt realize my alternator apparently isnt charging and the fun stopped rather quickly

other than that the b20 is in the EF, pics when i get a chance

i might change my ticket back to school and tuck my exhuast up better / fix my alternator.
