I have been collecting parts for some time now, finally got the build underway

heres the set up

1988 CRX Si

Engine
D16 ZC
Aries Pistons
Eagle Rods
ACL Bearings
ARP headstuds
Fj Gasket kit
Y8 Head
LSD Clutch Kit (rated for 385 ft lbs)

Turbo setup
Welded Egay manifold
Wrx turbo
Egay intercooler
DSM 450's
Greddy BOV
Walbro 255
LM1 wideband w/ autometer gauge
EDT traction bar kit

Goal- max out turbo and injectors then upgrade later this summer when i have more funds

all the machine work is being done by my friend at his work

bad news from the machine shop, after block was honed the pistons were under spec so they need to be sent out to be coated and the pins need to be upgraded to handle more boost.... so new plans ....all out race car now i need to get a big turbo. The car is going to be painted olive drab i also have some 16'' black rota slip knockoffs im gunna rock

They didnt mic out the pistons before they bored it. WTF. I would have them get you a new block or sleeve it for free

the pistons were suppossed to be .020 over which would have been all fine and dandy but... before honing the block i checked the pistons and they are only .002 over stock bore.

and all the cylinders were tappered .002 and one cyl was out of round about .0025. no good. but the only other d block we have arould is a z6 that had been laying in the rain and basically junk. so we honed it to see what we could do and it turned out that they cleaned up ..0055 over what the pistons are....but the pistons recamended ptw is .004 so we are going to send the pistons out for coating and gain .001 so we should only be .0005 over spec. but for engines running high boost ( 30 psi +++) the piston manufacturers usually say to have a little more clearance. so the pistons will be sent out to coat asap and we'll see where that gets us. Have any of you had any problems with the wrist pins breaking???

Thats alot of fucking coating if your trying to build the piston up.

I'd be chewin on someone's ear, machine shop, piston salesman, etc.

cost is 16 per piston. and i think your getting the wrong idea on the coating. we are only looking for .001. its pretty common to do. and its not the machine shops fault. we went into it knowing that it was going to be out of spec. but we cant return the pistons so we are just doing what we can do.

coating also helps when upper cyl lubrication is weak and helps avoid scratching. so its a win win situation. but it will set us back a little.. o well gives me some time to work on my setup ; :yes:

sorry i kinda or made that sound bad. when i bought the pistons the were susposed to be .20 over but the order was over the phone so they wont take them back now. so caleb is doing what he can to make them work give him a break his mom is hotter than shit

widebody all 3 of us are still in school ... i for one am just having for fucking around and saving for 375 to 400hp sohc non vtec ..... mine was running till a nasty boost spike
