92 galant build ***NWS*** new motor
« on: July 17, 2010, 10:39:07 PM »

Here is my marginaly dsm queer galant. I wanted 4 doors, awd, turbo and I didn't have the stomach for a lgacy sport sedan. I had posted my samurai turbo and my el-cheepo sentra build before, but then the site changed, and I kind of fell out of the hobby for a while. Hopefully this is goin to be a good return for me.
My goal is around 500 with a good dirt road suspension.
When I picked it up it barely made boost, leaked anything it wasn't supposed to and generaly made me feel like I fucked up. But the last 3 day has really turned it around. I cleaned it up, stuck on a not totally beet to shit 14b, and hacked a maf translater into it.
So fgar so good

Hopefully there will be a ton more to come.

I have got the car togethr well enough to drive it, but the brakes were horrible. I looked into new rotors and pads and for this car they were pretty steep. So I went to the u-pull and found a set of turbo 3000gt calipers. So 30 bucks later and I got some good calipers.

I got the new rebuild kits for the calipers, rebuilt them and painted them black.
I I got some new axi ceramic pads and brembo rotors, wich were only 26 bucks a peice.

I pulled the knuckles off and removed the factory heat sheilds and washed hem up so I can start building the adapter mount.

after getting the mount and the caliper sorted out I had just enough clearence behind the wheels to work.

I will post how they work when I get a few miles on them. The piston area on the new calipers is only about 10% bigger then factory, and the sweep area ofthe pads is about 25% larger.
So far it seems to work very well.

You wont reach 500whp reliably (lol) on pump gas.  You'll need e85 for that.

Ditch that maf translator fail and look here http://forums.ds-map.net/

More stuff done,

I bought a barely used evo3 16g
a used obx manifold I cut open and ground all the birdshit out of and welded back together
an obx o2 houseing
I got 6' of 3"
3 u bends, 3" for the exhasut
A chicomm intercooler from my last aborted sentra fail,
and some 2.5 plumbing for the ic system.

I am also trying to buy a set of used comp "264" cams, 630cc injectors, and a good act plate. Will let you know how I do.
I also am looking at a minty fresh 4bolt rear end out of a 10K mile college training car.

it may take me a few days, but I'm hoping to get there sooner then later.

I don't mind it too much. Everything so far has been pretty easy. Its not as simple as alot of cars though, that is a fact.

So now that I'm back in town, the chump car race is over and I got a chance to work on my car, this is what i was able to make happen.

I broke the peice of shit 3 bolt rear axle last weak, so I yarded it all out. Then installed the 4 bolt I got out of the university test car. Its got a whopping 2300 miles on it. So it was a stupid score.
I also built a new front mount, and a new 3" exhaust. I also took a pic of my poor old pos band saw I traded some deisel parts for .
I also picked up a sureflow pump and a few other parts for a methenal setup I will be trying out. I havn't had much time to finish sorting it out. But I'm slowly geting there..

Oh, and I also pulled the suspension control arms out and boxed them all in. Also ditched the aws system and capped off all the lines/hoses when I went 4 bolt. I gotta say, after an alighnment I am happy with how it drives/turns and stops with the new parts.

Thankfully you're not still running the sidemount...that charge pipe must get HOT. Any plans to wrap it?

Other than that...looks pretty good. I'm just a bit surprised a 4dr doesn't have extra room between the rad & engine vs a DSM.

Its wrapped now. Used the black dei sruff.
There is a bit more room so I'm told then a dsm, but obviusly not lots.

So some more shit done. I swapped in all the urathane bushings, and I started installeing my meth setup. I also took a pic or 2 of all te shit you take off when you dith the home rws. I also welded up the rear tow knuckles so they are not just flopping around.

I also installed a 91 talon shifter, its a tighter ratio.
I also scored a super jammy yakima ski rack that is OG mitsu. Complete with locks, keys and trim. Its pretty fuckin hot. I'll post pics when its installed.

sorry about the newb question, what engine originally has the 100mm crank and what rods can be used to make it work on a evo 3 block?

Evo 3 block is no different dimensionally than a 7 bolt, same combo he stated above.
