Annihilator's LS-T build for an EK hatch
« on: March 07, 2009, 03:48:14 PM »

Hey all, I'm new to the RHMT...I used to lurk on HMT but figured I'd register here.  Here's a few pics of my build:

and it's all going into this:

It's really nothing that special, but here's the info:

Motor is a b18b1
9:1 ross pistons with eagle h-beams
ARP head studs and rod bolts
Cometic head gasket
81.5mm bore
stock head with 3-angle valve job and cleaned up
RC 440cc injectors
Hondata s300 on a p28 ECU

Turbo stuff:
Mitsubishi 16g rebuilt by TRE (DSM company), it's very port/polished, and has a ridiculous inlet.
some random ramhorn manifold
Tial 38mm wastegate and Tial 50mm BOV

The build is mainly going for an autocross/road course based setup, hence the small-ish turbo.

I'll update with more pictures later.

lol you really don't want to see the engine bay right now...the build is still in progress.  I have the engine on a stand in my kitchen at the moment haha.  I'm pretty close to being ready for it to go in...all I lack now are some random DSM turbo parts, oil drain/feed lines for the turbo, a clutch, starter, and distributor...and an OBD conversion for hondata.

lol well I got a really good deal on the hondata...it was a fresh chipped p28 with receipt from phearable, with the s300 for 520 shipped haha.  I couldn't pass it up.

About the 16g, I don't know how I caught that turbo, it showed up on ebay one day and it was a very spur of the moment purchase.  It wasn't as cheap as one would expect for a 16g, but according to a few dsm guys, that is a collector turbo since TRE only ran a small amount of those turbos a few years ago.

About the cams, I'm eventually going to put some cams in there, but I have a spare head laying around that I'm going to clean up, maybe smooth out some casting flaws in the ports, put some oversized valves and cams...and obviously springs/retainers.  For now though, I'm ready to just finish it up and get it running.

Thanks for all the comments guys  :)

That was before the rebuild and clean-up.  It's not so nasty looking now, but it's sitting in the same spot haha

I need some info guys...all of the helpful threads got moved to the OG section so I can't see it.

What should I do for an oil drain/feed setup?  Also, my turbo is able to run coolant lines as well...but I'm not sure if I want to.  I know I don't absolutely need to, but if I do decide to run coolant lines, how do I go about doing that?

Oh yeah, and what does everyone do about excessive oil pressure going to the turbo, I know there is some restriction valve that drops the pressure, but where do I get one at?

Thanks for the help guys/gals.

Your oil line return should be purchased from www.stealthmodeperformance.com Best in the business.

Thanks for that link.  I see they also have the oil restrictor for sale in there, so I'll have to get both of those.

Sorry for the noob questions...that was one piece of the build I couldn't ever decide what to do about.

I still don't see why they moved so many of the informative threads to the OG section though :(

I bought a water kit from Tuner Toys that shows you exactly how to set it up, and I won't be using it as I sold the turbo. It will fit the turbo you have now, I had a TD05HR evo 8 turbo. Anyways if you want the kit, I'll sell it to you for $30 + shipping. That is the exact kit I bought, its brand new! So basically your saving $20 + shipping buying it from me. Lemme know.

Glustic, if you still have those lines next week, I'll send you money.  I'm going on my first track day at Hallett raceway near Tulsa, Oklahoma, so I need to be minimal on my spending until I make sure the car gets back in one piece.  I'm trying to get some race rubber mounted on some new wheels that came in today, so I'll post a couple track day pictures provided it makes it in one piece after this weekend

and yes, cocoa pebbles FTW haha

Looks like your wastegate is on there backwards man, the other flange is the one you want bolted to your manifold.

You need an Oil restrictor, Ive seen guys make there own, and Ive seen nitrous jets used, but you could just buy one theyre not mad expensive. I would find out what size the thread on the 16G oil inlet is (10x1.5mm)  and then search for a restrictor with that thread.

I'm going to assume your running a -3 an feedline, a 16G doesnt need -4an.

Ill save them for you. Hit me up with a PM when you are ready to buy. GL at the track! Make sure you get us some pics and or video! That EK is gonna look sick at the track! I would also take Logan76s recommendation and run an oil restrictor.

Alright I appreciate it glustic.  I'll definitely give you a shout after this weekend.

Logan, thanks for the tip lol, I had a feeling that might be the case after looking through a bunch of these build threads...I didn't think it was possible to fit it in that direction, but evidently it is.

Thanks again for all the positive comments guys, a build like this would probably not fly on H-T because of my color selection and not-so-jdm-ness lol
