Looks it to me, most b-series blocks have webbing or large ribs on them.

4G63s have them at the oil pan level offset under the alternator, well away from the mani. So yeah, like failboat yotas if you like, but there are much better areas to strategically place a filter port. And futher more, when you unscrew the filter, it's going to leak oil all over the skirt of the block. Seems like fail bomber Yamaha style engineering to me.
