Extended Strut hats
« on: April 13, 2009, 09:01:35 AM »

Pretty basic mod. Enjoy...

Riding around like a toolshed with bouncy suspension is not cool. The car I am building will be running  Koni's and coilovers (GC"s) poly...ect..  Primary use will be autocross and track events

Cutting 1" piece of pipe

Welded, ready for finishing

Belt sanding (gotta make it pretty for Powdercoating)

Comparison of stock vs extended

2 done , 2 to go

Next up rear suspension limiters

I am just copying a design on the rear limiters that JD came up with. I had the thread saved from the old site, but it's long gone. Basically use old bump stops and threaded rod. I am going to built them this weekend.

Ground control sells strut hat extenders for  $200, They have speherical bearings in them which is nice, but at $200? I can spend it better elsewhere. (hoosiers)

I never said threaded rod.  Threaded rod is expensive.  I said cut and weld old shock shafts.

I am taking the info from an old HMT thread that wasn't yours , but the author gave you credit.

I will try using old shock shafts.  I was going to use cut up old strut hats for the bushing cup's so that the bump stops had somewhere to fit inside.

I need to be able to disconnect these fairly easily.
