66 nova 2 door. No motor or trans.....

SO lets go back to 1986.......

I was 6 years old. Uncle was a pretty big gear head. He was in his eairly 20's at the time. Had this car, put in and pulled out 3+ motors and trans, rearends ect. Parked it in my grandmothers garage, pulled the motor. Was having it built at a shop. In the mean time he pulled all the interior, had it all redone and put it back in. Then he died. Grandmother inharted the car. Sat that way untill 2002 untill she died. My dad moves into the house in 02 and has hopes and dreams of doing something with it one day. Fast forward to 2009 he sees me fucking with the hondas and thinks Im a Rice burner dumb ass. I tell him Im gonna make 300whp in my crx, He laughfs. Sees me do it and says wow. Tell him I could do big number in the nova and he says whatever. Then sees me put down 400+ in the integra and now the bug is set in him that I can accutly do it. So needless to say I got a call today saying to come pick this thing up and do something with it. Its been sitting on jack stands for 26years.

Looking for Ideas. I know I want to get in turn the key and do burnouts, and drive it 500 miles and not have to worry about shit. So Fuel INjected. It will be NA for now, So Im thinking LSx, but other than that I dont know shit..... Want to do it on the budget scale as always. Havent seen this car in over 20+ yeas as its had blankets and boxes stack on it since 198X

Yeah, it is worthless with out pics. And it will be a few months b4 I get any. Since my dad is working about 3k miles away in Alaska. I haven't even seen it un covered jb 20+ years. All I know is its rust free and the body was pretty straight. That was the one deal though. It can never be sold or leave the family. All I know is I want 400+ whp, decent mpg, handle half way decent and good brakes. Figure that not a huge reach.

Practically any stock LSx type motor will have the balls (torque) of a carb'd 350, maybe a bit less than a basic 383/400, but will be much more fun to drive. Slap on some bolt-ons plus a cam and they're much better than 40yr old carb tech.

They bolt to a th350/th400 with a few $ in easy to buy parts, and the modern trannys will adapt to the car nearly the same way. For a few bones you can get a full engine harness where you only need to feed the engine +12V and the ignition wires. From there you can stay stock-ish, or use the EMS options for bolt-ons, turbos, blowers, etc.

That's my future plan for by 67 bird, stuff in a 5.3L (since it's a 326 HO trim car) so its a quick DD, then build from there. The actual motor will only be 1/3 of the overall cost, so it's usually best to pick what you want.

4.8 or 5.3 truck motor. MSD box for the ignition and a cheap ass megasquirt 1 for fueling. No dealing with the stock harness or hp tuners stuff.

TH400 tranny and a good sized turbo. 600whp is actually pretty safe on a stock motor. Some guys have pushed them wayyy farther than that.

I will probably stick with a stock ecu and harness for what ever LSx I put in it. But thats the rout I would like to go. Will probably just throw a cam and some headers and some exhaust and enjoy it that way until I get board. As far as trans, I would like to have a 4l60 or a manual. But will probably end up with a th400. It just blows me away how much the Mustang II front end is for these things. I need to find a rhmt way to build it on the budget and make it handle and stop well.

You can find an actual mustang II subframe and swap it in. Won't be bolt in but probably only cost you $100 or $200. Then the time to fab it in. Discs in the front drums in the back will be fine.

Wont find any of those around here in the yard. Disk/drum is all i planned on unless I go with a 9" down the road. It has a 10bolt in it now which will hold up on the street just fine i think.

Yeah, as long as you don't hook the 10 bolt will be fine lol

Depends on which 10 bolt it is, the 7.5 will prolly break, but the 8.5 might hold for a while on the street, esp if traction is limited. Sticky tires would shorten its life significantly...

That is tucking retarded. Why would you go through the hassle of wiring a ms to not control spark with it. Also, how exactly would you control a cop ignition system with a pos msd box?

Because its a plug and play. Easy as shit. Look up the MSD 6010, it controls the coils.

Lots of guys do this. I guess I'm not the only retarded one. lol

Fuck that garbage!! Lots of guys also run train on ur asshole, but i'm not gonna jump on that bandwagon either.

Using that to control spark when running a ms for fuel is retarded and you are as well for suggesting it.

My vote is fined a rolled truck, buy the whole thing as salvage pull out the engine and trans. This way you get the wiring harness the engine, and a 4l80e. Do some minor bolt on's and tuning for now, and then add boost later.

Part out rest of the truck for nearly what you paid for the truck.

Profit  ???

That's kinda what I was thinking too. But what ever I get ill pull apart and aspect it. Maybe do a quick ball hone, open the ring gap up, throw in some rod bolts, ect. Then slap her in and rip it na to straighten out all the little quarks. I'm more concerned with figuring out the suspension/brakes/front clip...

So I checked the car out this weekend at my dad's house. There are so many parts spread all over the place. Peaked under the car and the whole suspension is new. But since its been sitting for 24 years I'm pretty sure it's gonna need to be replaced anyways. Also looked inside the car, brand new valve covers in the back seat, along with a new timing chain set, and a brand new torquer intake manifold sitting on the floor. Gonna probably go get the car in another 2 weeks.

What a mess, but I'd kill to have a relative hook me up with something like that.

My neighbor had a mid 60's nova and it was a great car.  I like anything pre 80's though, older the cooler.
