Yeah it's a. Big mess. Had a flood nd they threw a bunch of Shit into the garage and on/next to the car. Got my reservation with the state patrol to verify the vin so I can put the car into my name, also reserved my car hauler for next Sunday. So looks like its actually gonna happen.

So I went and got the car today, it's now resting in its new home in my garage. Overall the car is pretty straight. A few dents here and there but nothing to big. One good dent right in the rear, but I'm sure it can be pulled out with not to much effort. Will have to wait and see. Popped Yeh trunk and its full of parts. Didn't get a pic, but it looks like the radiator is in there along with a starter, master cyl, and a bunch of other randomness stuff, on to the pics......

That's a fucking shame.   I feel i'd rather watch one rust out in a field then see that.    I see alot of that here too, rusting, sitting, "i'm working on it" when confronted with a cash offer, 5 years later fucking car is in the same spot with more rust and zero work put in.   BOTH my dream cars were owned by a friend of mines dad.  He was going to restore them, had them crushed for the scrap.    64 and 65 impalas.   Jesus wept.  The mexicun jesus.

Garage cleaned up well.  I saw the car buried and ocd shit all over my face.

Well I'm still torn. I have a baby on the way and is due in April. (first kid) and as I would like to dump lots of money in it I just don't see it happening. So I'm torn between selling some of the parts and trying to scrape some change together to buy a lq4 or just drop the running 327 I alread have into it and make it run and drive and enjoy it. I just know that I don't like to do Shit twice, and if I go to put the lq4 in it won't just be that. It will also be a turbo and a m2 front suspension, and everything else I want to do. So I'm kinda torn because I know with a kid on the way that will take years to get those kinda parts....

I would do what is need to get it running first! Putting a lq4 will be a lot more work and I dont see it being that cheap.

I try to keep shit running, mobile, and enjoyable while I stockpile parts for a bigger project.
My shit still ends up torn down and sitting way too often for way too long

Some people can juggle the family, work, and hobby but I find my car is always last.

I say throw the 327 in while you stockpile parts for the lq4 and whatever else you want.

When you leave a car torn down to do it all right the first time, its easy to be abandoned.
Your uncle and dad both demonstrated that, how many years did it sit?

I finally started back on my camaro after around 8 years, if it had been running it would have been a lot more fun those years then sitting in a barn getting dirty and smelly.

Im torn though. I HATE having to do the same thing on a car more than once. I peaked around under the car a little more today, and the gas tank is fucked. Its completely rotted through. So since im gonna have to replace the tank I think im gonna set up the new tank for a sump for the future. So Ill probably set up a inline pump, and cap the return port that I will put on the tank. One mod im going to for sure do is power brakes and a disk conversion on the front. I want this car to at least be able to stop.

Tim, its been sitting since 1986, So 26 years...

This thread helped me "reconnect" with my high school project car, a 67 firebird. Finally got it from storage & into my garage. Sat 3 yrs and fired second crank, but zero brakes. Yours has a lot less body work to do tho. Both ours have fucked up rears too, on opposite sides.

The SBC is easy as shit to get working, and carbs can be had for cheap. I built my motor myself (at age 17) and had locals do the carb & tranny for less than a stock B18B rebuild. Tuning them is easy too, even w/o a wideband. Rebuild it to get it rolling, do the necessary stuff, then focus on making it project 8sec_quarter_mile.

Oddly enough your garage pic isnt' much different from mine, car on left with Honda trans/engines to the right and in front:

Yeah, can't/dont want to do anything to this car untill I get it in my name. I have a state patrol inspection on the 29th. After that it's fair game. Think I'm gonna slap the new big valve heads on the 327 and throw it in and go from there. The only upgrade that have to happen b4 anything else will be putting disks on the front.

If they're similar to mine, finned drums, they will stop like a bitch. If you're doing it over and over maybe not. I have something like 235/60/15's on it too, not some old skinny bullshit. The unibody cars aren't as fat as the full-size pigs were, but used similar brakes.

the drums only work once or twice (high speed stopping) after that you got nothing.

disks in front will make a huge difference

Yeah, looking at a budget brake build for it. Some used corvette calipers(front&rear), suburban master cyl, civic brake booster, and corvette rotors. Have to do a little more measuring to see whats up. But I think it will all work out.

I can get most all of that for under 300 at the local pick and pull. If worst comes to worst, I'll step down from the corvette rotors and calipers and go with the 12" camaro rotors, and camaro calipers.

Fucking dumb bitch at the dmv! She told me to make an appointment with the state patrol after I told her its a rolling shell with no motor, transmission, bumpers or grill. She said I have to take it there to have them sign off on the paperwork (which she gave me) for me to start the lost title process. So i did. month and a half later her i am, my appointment day (thats how long the wait time is) So I rented a trailer again to tow this car 25miles to the state patrol and then back home. Got it there hand him the paperwork, he goes back to the car opens the driver door, looks on the dash through the windshild, looks back at the door again, looks on the firewall, and then comes back up to the car to ask me where I got this vin number that I put on the paperwork. I told him pre 1968  chevy vehicls have the vin on the door hinge pillar. He goes back looks and then goes inside runs the vin and comes back to tell me the vin is clear and to bring the car back once the engine is installed. So he can sign off on the paperwork. (which I already knew)

Needless to say It was a big waste of time money and energy today. State patrolman was a total dick once I started asking him some questions about how to put it in my name. He had a bunch of smart ass comments to me after I asked him well the lady at the dmv told me to bring this paper work here and you would sign off on it and I would then be able to start the paperwork to get my title.  I wanted to stomp him out so bad. I was nothing but nice and polite to him. I guess hes use to dealing with nothing but assholes.

I wanted to put it in my name b4 I even started wrencing on it so my backstabing uncle couldnt say it was his once its all finished.

CLIFFS: Im mad!, Cars not in my name until I put a motor in it. And then take it back to the State patrol.

Well, time has come for me to do some work. 1st thing was to build a car dolly. That way I could move the car around in my garage.

So now thats done, it's time to attack the brakes, pulled apart and inspected.
ll looks good, but I'm going to replace all 4 wheel cylinders, rubber lines, and go to a dual master cylinder instead of the single jelly jar style.

So went to work on the brakes last night. Pulled the fronts apart. Came apart real easy. But the bearings are fucked. So it's time to replace those. The grease is all dried up and turned to adhesive. Supper sticky, and hardened up.

Rock auto for the brake parts....

Pulled the hub, but the bearing was stuck on from the old grease. So had to soak it in brake cleaner.

The rears were cake to do. All I'm doing is inspecting, and replacing the wheel cyl., and all the rubber lines. The fluid that came out of the lines actually looked pretty good.

And this job was brought to you by a bowl of home made spaghetti and meatballs, and a 6 pack of beer..

So today, I need to replace the rubber line from the body, to the rear axle. And go pick up the front wheel bearings Also going to go get a running 327, that I'm trading a 3 speed that I have for, and trading another friend a backup b18 that I have for a freshly rebuilt th400 transmission.

Yeah bitches..... So the casting numbers say that the motor is from a 1967 corvette. Which means its either a 300hp, or a 350hp stock motor. :)

You can barely see the corvette valve covers sitting up by the transmission. So it looks like it has hydraulic lifters. And from the information I've gathered on the internet's that means it's the 350hp version.
